Lost the Habit
« on: September 29, 2006, 04:10:45 pm »
Well i used to map a lot but now...i just...can't. No reason why except for this:

Well i open Paint and i draw something nice out. Looks okay so i say, "Thats easy i can make that in no time!", but when i go into Polyworks...I just loose my train of thought and just say, "Im bored already", after a few seconds. I need some inspiration because if i don't get back into mapping i'll just become more lazy and never do nothing. I haven't posted in a few days, i think 2, and all that was why. I'm just losing interest in this game that i used to love so much.

Hopefully the weekend will be enough time for some inspirational replies. Too bad i'll be out of town for Sat. and Sun. Good thing is no school Monday!

Thanks, CaptainDamnit

Same thing happened to me: "Now i make uber cool map!" Then i opened PW and got bored very fast. Just keep a little break. After that try to get some inspiration of other's maps, or just do something little.

Dont force yourself into something like that if your not in the mood for it, just wait until you get an uncontrollable craving for mapmaking.

It'll pass, don't worry :) I had a period of about a year or so where I couldn't finish a single map :\

Just give it time.

Same. I love custom maps, but I settled for waypointing instead of direct mapping because polygons reduce me to crud. :P But with PolyWorks help, I think I can get into the "career," heh.

BTW, what do you mean exactly by interest in the game? I almost never play Soldat merely for leisure; I probably run PolyWorks twice as much as Soldat, and I still think the game rocks. That may be just me, tho'.

well... sometimes when i cant finish a single map, i just make huge very detailed maps that nobody would ever care about, unzoom at max and close the window without saving...
i know that it will consume u about 30 minutes, but when u waste all that hard "work" (once its a map that nobody even u would like to play in it) ul want to finish every map u got blocked on
oh, u can also like... steal maps and combine in ur own special way
(as in, open bigfalls and delete the right wall, and then make another map there, and maybe some more and more and more, for example...)
have i ever told u i love ur maps? plz dont quit soldat map making...=(

I won't quit but im struggling to hang in there. Oh and thanks for loving my maps. I hope not sexually loving them...cause that would be scary.

I'm just starting to get into mapping.  I'm halfway into getting waypoints right, too.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

I can't map in general...I have cool ideas and I think "oh, let me make this! It'll be great!" 5 seconds into PW I think to myself forget it. I can't even color a poly in PWs....

Same, man. I'm a wiz at just about everything in the mapping department except polygons. :'(

Hence the moniker, "Master Waypointer", eh?
