Ports to open for internet play
« on: October 16, 2006, 05:59:40 pm »
I dont need to host a server, but when I try to get a list of games it says, "Lobby could not be reached". I tried to use a different master server, but same results. So I am thinking that it is my firewall. My dad has us up on some big fancy router thing, so what ports should I tell him to open for internet play. (not hosting, just joining).

ps. sorry if this prob has been addressed, i did try to search for it first  :-\

If you're dad is doing something odd with the routing and he is paranoid to the point that he blocked outgoing connections on unknown ports, tell him to allow outgoing connections on 13073 (for lobby access) 23073 (to be able to join the game), 23083 (to be able to download custom maps)

My guess would be to open the port 23073 unless your port number in your soldat.ini is different (i.e 23083 or some other number). Check your soldat.ini and look under network. the port number should be there. I'd open the ports for server hosting cause this game will be so addicting that you'l want to play against your friends ;)

Please don't post redundant information.  Furthermore, the information in soldat.ini for port configurations is only for the server, which he has specifically said he is not hosting.  The configuration in there has no effect on how he joins games.

Also of note is that you may want to have your dad allow all outgoing connections on ports from 20000 to 35000 since many soldat servers use a variety of ports throughout this range.  Opening just 23073 and the other ports I mentioned (remember, this is all for outgoing connections, something that only the most unique and paranoid router configurations interfere with) will only allow you to join servers that use the default ports.

Thanks, so 20000 throguh 35000? That seems like a big range compared to other games I have played online. If I did open those, it would also alow me to host?

I'm talking about opening that huge range of incoming ports because people host Soldat servers on a huge range of ports.  The ones I mentioned in my first post are the defaults.

You can host by opening the ports you want to host on for incoming connections.

If you have your own problem, please post in another thread.  This thread is a guy talking about how he can't join any games.  Post your question in the Server Help forum
