Port forwarding and that
« on: October 01, 2006, 01:01:29 pm »
I tried once again to set up my own soldat server.
I also checked the connection with EnEsCe's port checker..

all failed. I have forwarded the ports, all of them, in my TeleWell TW-EA400 router(??), disabled firewalls and that (f-secure, windows xp), but still. Is it just my ISP that hates me or am I being the complete newbie I am about servers?

I looked through the manual that came with my TW-EA400 but it doesn't tell me anything I don't know about virtual server/port forwarding.

my OS is Windows XP, my ISP is Sonera (Finnish..) and my router is like I said, TeleWell TW-EA400.

I have also checked the option Connection=Internet in the soldat.ini and other options there.

One problem might be I'm not forwarding the ports to the correct ip, but I have forwarded them both to my LAN ip and WAN ip (so one of them should work.. eh)

I might have forgot to say other things or so but anyways, any help is appreciated.

You should be forwarding the ports to only your LAN IP.

Please, post the output of the port checker, so we can see exactly what is happening. As well, give us the following: 1)  any error messages in the soldat console, as well as the IP the server attempted to bind to, 2) your local LAN IP, and 3) what ports Soldat is configured to use.

Check your modem aswell, sometimes the modem also requires you to disable NAT otherwise your ports will be randomised when going to the router.

no errors in the soldat console, it tells me server ip: 192.168.0.182, which I have forwarded the ports to, I don't know if I understood what you ment with what ip it attempts to bind to, but it tells me my ip is my LAN ip anyways..

here's the output of the port checker:

Code: [Select]
Step One: Ingame Connectivity Test
Sending PING test to 84.248.12.103 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Sending REQUEST test to 84.248.12.103 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Sending JOIN GAME test to 84.248.12.103 on UDP Port 23073... FAILED!
Step Two: All-Seeing Eye Test
Sending test to 84.248.12.103 on UDP Port 23196... FAILED!
Step Three: Remote Administration
Sending test to 84.248.12.103 on TCP Port 23073... FAILED!
Step Four: Map Download Connections
Sending test to 84.248.12.103 on TCP Port 23083... FAILED!

TEST RESULTS:
- Total Passed: 0/6
- UDP Check: error (Vital)
- ASE Check: error
- Admin Check: error (Vital)
- Download Check: error
- Final Test Result: FAILED! Please check your network configuration.

When I disabled NAT I couldn't connect to the internet..

Yeah well since all of the checks failed, none of your ports are forwarded correctly...

go to http://portforward.com and find your router in there, see what it says.

Well not sure what to call it, but the box through which I connect to internet is of the model TeleWell TW-EA400 (EA500 was the closest to it they had there), not sure if it's a router or modem, in my language I call it modem but I guess it's a router.. you can connect 4 computers to it anyways...

Yes thats the router, it may be a modem/ router. Do you have to box or just one?  Also you must run the port checker while in your soldat server. I did not know that at first so mabe thats your problem.

I've been running the soldatserver while running the port checker. And yes I've only got one box between my computer and "the world".

Sorry for bumping this but I'd really appreciate if somebody could help me gettin this to work.

I have no firewalls except the inbuilt one in the router, so it should only require to portforward in the router but it isn't working, I have no idea why..
