ultraman's mega sexy mappack v1.0
« on: December 02, 2006, 11:05:11 am »
I've spent the last couple of weeks on this pack, containing four ctf maps, all are new. Many huge thanks to all the mappers who's maps give me inspiration and ideas. Credit for scenery goes to Avarax, XTender, Serial K!ller, rir and others. All in all I think it turned out well. Many thanks to Anna who recovered ctf_fallout and ctf_monolith from the maw of a Polyworks error. Enjoy.
None of these are waypointed  :'(

ctf_fallout
A medium sized symetrical (please don't flame me) ctf map. The barrels of nuclear waste are kinda unrealisic 'cos in real life, nuclear waste doesn't glow green :P The shaing is very simple, but I feel it is effictive. Reminds me of ctf_howitzer.

ctf_monolith
The middle part was inspired by The Geologist's ctf_petro. Multitexture, lots of scenery. This is one of my favourites. Small-medium size. A lot of inspiration came from Wraithlike's mapping techniques, [applaud].

ctf_krag
Another symetrical one. The lighting seems cool to me, even though it's kinda corny :P

ctf_spasm
As soon as I saw Demonic's ctf_twin I fell in love with that texture. This map is named after the owner of !Elite ctf. Mainly because I'm rubbish at thinking up map names :P. Quite a small map. Not quite symetrical, but close to it. Minimal scenery, I hope Demonic isn't angry, it's looks quite similar to ctf_twin :(

I hope everyone enjoys. Download attached to the post.
Happy capping and merry Christmas!

I like em all.  Very simple, but they look like fun.  I especially like how well you did shadows on them.

First thing: good job. All these maps look very interesting at first sight, and in-game as well. :)

Ctf_fallout: my advice, set the dark trees in the background rather than in front of everthing. It allows camping and might even interfere with the gameplay sometimes. It's almost the same for the barrels actually but you set colliders to them so it's ok... also beware of using too many dark areas + dark sceneries. As for the lights, I'd suggest you'd use more transparency or even darken them a bit.

Ctf_monolith: there again, way too many sceneries set "in front of everything". That's just wrong, and annoying. Most of the trees should be in the background as well as most of the crates. At least add a bit of transparency to the trees and the grey water to prevent camping. Of course you can't do much for the polygoned pillars, the rest should be fine.

Ctf_krag: not much to say it's a bit too plain but I personally like it that way. Those trees are alright, but I'm just a bit bothered by the bright lights again. No big deal though.

Ctf_spasm: fine map but it lacks some rock sceneries and stuffs like that to avoid the obvious plain feeling. As it's a small map it wouldn't need a lot anyway.

Well these are my thoughts for now. At least you have a good potential and worked hard on these maps so congratulations! *applauds*

Yeah, I've yet to get the full hang of proper scenry placement, and transparency settings, thanks for the advice :)

All looking very sexy, Monolith is awesome. The lighting is a little overdone on krag ans spasm, but they all still look really good.
