inf_we_were_soldiers and mount_war
« on: June 18, 2006, 04:12:07 pm »
Well this is my first attempt at map making. Both are inf maps. The first one that I made is "inf_mount_war."

Left side of the map (alpha):

Right side of the map (bravo):

Recommended players: 8 - 16

Next is inf_we_were_soldiers, loosely based on the Movie of the same title. Jets are very low, and the objective is to use scenery and team work to accomplish the goal. There are colliders in front of some scenery to allow for crawling through grass under fire, etc.

Recommended players: 8 - 12

NOTE: All sceneries are either included with soldat.exe or are from other maps/mods. I take no credit for any sceneries in either of my maps. Since most of the scenery were default or commonly used maps, scenery is not included. Place the individual .PMS files in your soldat maps folder.

Individual files (without scenery!):

Remember kids, Photobucket sucks.

Good job on the mapmaking though. I'm glad to see someone actually uses mapmaker other than mean old PolyWorks which requires LOTS of skill to use.

^Ha!  Polyworks has rejected joo!

These maps are okay for first maps.  Needs shading and more scenery.

I like mapmaker more than polyworks.. especially since it's my first time. I know the first need more scenery, but the second one is full of it. Could use a bit  more at blue base, maybe.

What do you mean by "Overviews in MapMaker ftl."?

In MapMaker, you can't take a complete overview of a map as big as your first one, whereas in Polyworks, you can zoom out even more than MapMaker.

Keep this up, though.  When your mapping skills develop over time, you'll have enough experience to use Polyworks.  PW's not that hard anyway; it's like MSPaint with .PMS files.

i like these maps. nice.
just keep adding to them though. like more possibilities.

I too used to complain about polyworks but you just have to learn to move on and embrace it.

[I love using it but i still don't know a few things like how to delete objects (colliders, spawn markers, nades, medkits etc)]

Vulbastick: you have to highlight them with the Marquee tool and then hit delete.

Topic Creator (too lazy to scroll up) The maps look nice, especially for Mapmaker, I may d/l and test, but not now. You should try to learn polyworks, it's much nicer. And, use imageshack,us for image hosting.

Soon I'll be adding more scenery to both.. as well as maybe another path "high" on mount_war. Can you load multiple textures in Polyworks? Can't seem to do that with MapMaker.

Yes you can.  Mapmaker does not support multi-texturing.

It'll be one hell of a ride to learn how, though.

There's something I don't like about inf_mount_war. I can't really place it. Maybe it's the lack of scenery. But I really like inf_we_were_soldiers much better in almost all aspects. Especially good for first maps.

Love mapmaker.

Yucky BG colours, but pretty nice for first maps.
Polyworks FTW!
