Download gtk if you dont already have it. Install it. Then download the gimp and install it.

Thanks jettlarue, that solves problem one. I'm working on it now, having a bit of a problem with the colours though, it doesn't seem to want to draw in black or red. Probably something to do with the file type, ah I'll find a way around it tommorow hopefully.

Change the image type from indexed to RGB. It's the first option in the "Images" menu. When you're done, choose that "Optimize for Animation" filter from the "Animation" option in the "Filters" menu and save it as a .gif.
