Setting up a CTF practice server
« on: January 19, 2007, 05:46:40 am »
I have just rented a server for the main purpose of training grounds for clan NoS.  (no not that NOS, the new one).

We are mainly interested in training our new clan to kick some serious CTF butt.  What I would like is for our server to have the correct settings for this ambition... that we could compete seriously on a CTF ladder.

Looking forward to that day (although we are admittedly a long way off from it!) what maps are used in serious CTF play?  How many nades, how frequently are healthboxes dropped etc. etc.  Besides powerups and stat guns (which we assume will be off in serious play), are there any normal weapons that we should consider as verboten?

My clan leader is considering leaving TK on for practice, to help hone people's aiming skills and judgment.  I don't know if this is a good idea, it's currently under discussion in my clan.  Thoughts on that?

Please... we just want to set up a training environment that is conducive to producing world-class CTF Soldat players.  Any and all thoughts from grizzled vets are welcomed and appreciated, and WILL BE APPLIED!

If you dont already know that, you havnt played too many wars.

Minigun is usually off
2 - 3 nades (depending on what ladder)
frequency set to 3 (?)

Maps:
b2b
laos
- (DEFINATLY THOSE 2)
voland
viet

Those are the most played (from what ive played)

Wouldnt hurt to have:
run
kampf

TK shouldnt be put on. Because in a war, you dont really care if youre shooting your teammate in tense moments..

Not that it would really matter, but most leagues demands all weapons to be activated. What's so horribly wrong with the minigun? :(

Friendly Fire should be turned off.

Thanks for replies especially on the maps.

Minigun... besides being fun, this weap IMO has a use.  That use is by a diehard teamplayer that is playing midfield or disruptor, knows exactly what he is doing and how it fits in with the overall goal of getting some ****ing flags capped.

What about health?  Is there a parameter that affects the healthbox drop rate?  I can't find it.  But it sometimes feels to me that there are more on some servers than others.  My imagination?

Stat guns?  I like them.  But I understand that a lot of people don't.  Since they change the character of the map SO MUCH, it's an important question: Stat guns On or Off?

Lastly, spawn time.  What should we expect to encounter in terms of the /maxspawntime parameter?

Thanks again for previous and future replies to my concerns... very much appreciated.

Mofo, those are the Australian clanwar server settings, and, IMO, they are shit.
