One thing here:

1. M79  +  Barret are weapons as every other
2. They are only lame if using (the M79) for example with non-accurate shot on people with low health so that the explosion will indirectly kill them or something like that
3. M79 is good if using your projectile skills in a good way, e.g. aiming like a 1337 soldier with it in the air.
4. Don't like M79? Don't complain, Buy a server, deactivate them, and have satisfaction -.-
5. Everything above is also for the barret
6. Every weapon has it's advantages and disadvantages, so choose your best.

Of course, that isn't possible with it's NINE SECOND RELOAD, and it's GOD AWFUL INACCURACY, you would think that people want it nerfed or something.

Hey, I only complain when a server is full of people using M79 or Barrett and I'm the only AK-74 or MP5 user. Even then, I usually say something along the lines of "So many Barretts" (an attempt at a reference to The Simpsons, "So many roses") or "I hate it when servers are full of M79s". Hate the players, don't hate the weapon.
Besides, they both have very simple counters. Take out M79s from long range or high up, rush and spray Barretts. If you can't figure it out, it's your own fault for dying.

So true, the post above. However there are some maps where said tactics are impossible. For example in Inf_warehouse the tunnels on the bottom of the map make it a perfect place for just one M79 soldier to stall an entire rush with a well timed aim and grenades

I agree with Xtishereb. I hate it when the servers full of barretters, but not so much M79ers. I actually like it when everyone but me is using an M79.

^ It can be good because you may be giving a good example, acting as a missionary, showing them that the M79 is not the only way to play. Otherwise, mass m79ers is a pretty sorry sight. Although I have seen some people use the M79 skillfully before (OMG!).

But really, it can show noobies that other weapons can be affective too. Take them off the shit while they are young.

Oh yes, people who are good players (You can really tell the difference between a newer player and a good player simply by their movement) and use either weapon I really have no problem with. I use Barrett occassionally, but I'm not a Barretard who only uses that one gun  in every single game on every single map, I will also most of the autos ( <3 and ) and the Ruger. It's not the weapons, it's the players.

^ totally agree. There is that movement people have that sets the good players from the newer ones; as they are ready to counter most weapons/situations that comes up, where as newer players take that uncaring 'ride the gun' movement, which makes them excellent nade fodder.

I would, but my servers lag liek hellz and no one ever/would join them. So I resort to having to play with bots or someone elses servers. I can't manage to find any barret/m79less servers, I remember there used to be in 1.2.1, but not anymore because of its constant boost in popularity. So because of this, I try and get people not to use them as much, as opposed to whine because they are there.

I agree, but what does this topic have to do with weapon ballance?  I mean... the whining doesnt make the m79 any more, or less potent. Nor the barrett.

The problem that the average m79/barret complainer has is that everyone is using these weapons at once. They think the game is no fun without variety, and they're right. However, the game is not the same without these weapons, so that's why they would rather change these two guns instead of remove them completly.

As people play, they realize there are way better guns than the m79, so i don't think this is an issue.

There is no "right to whine." Plus, the rules of the forum supercede any country's rules and regulations; thus, you have no "right to whine" about how Soldat doesn't have vehicles and such. I wish these whiney threads were geared more towards balance than just moaning about how certain people hate some weapon.
