Need some help with mods...
« on: January 19, 2007, 05:08:46 pm »
No, I'm not making a mod, (I don't even know the beginning of making one) [retard] I need a little help actually using them:

1. Can anyone give me some some links to mods that only change the graphics of ALL the guns (Not just one gun, I want all of them modified) and the interface? I've tried looking around this sub-forum but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for - they either come with weapon settings changes or there's only like 2 guns that are modified. :(

2. I've already tried getting a modification to work, but with no luck. I've tried the Soldat Wiki, Google, searching these forums, and I've ended up with nothing. Can someone give me step-by-step instructions on how to actually use it? I know you're supposed to set the parameter "soldat.exe -mod *mod name*", but I can't seem to get the contents of .zip files in the correct spot, either. I'm pretty sure you extract the contents of the .zip file to the Mods folder, but can someone help me out here? I'd appreciate it.

Weapons-gfx and Int.-gfx: you're looking for Soldat Evolved by Michal Zajaczkowski, a favorite of many players like myself. At the bottom of the thread:
Quote from: MZ
Download and extract to your  soldat\mods  directory, add parameter  -mod EVO  to the target of your Soldat shortcut.
Put the extra parameter OUTSIDE the quotes, at the very end of the entire line. If you still have no luck with shortcuts you can always just make a raw copy of Soldat and manually dump the contents into the directory straight and play normally.

Alright. No problem.
1. Check out this section of the Soldat Mods Archive for all your full mod needs.

2. Okay. Get a mod. Open the archive.
If there's a folder inside with the name of the mod, just extract that folder in your Soldat\Mods directory.
If there's a bunch of folders inside named the same as Soldat's folders (Interface-gfx, Sfx, Weapons-gfx, etc.), create a new folder in the Soldat\Mods directory and extract the files into that folder.

To run the mod, you'll need to use the mod parameter. I think the Soldat Wiki's article on it is fairly clear. Check out my example if you don't think it is.
Example:
You get the Nerf Gun Mod and find it has multiple folders inside named Interface-gfx, Weapons-gfx, Sfx, etc. You create a folder inside the C:\Soldat\Mods directory named Nerf Gun Mod and extract the archived folders in there. When you want to launch the mod, you type in C:\Soldat\Soldat.exe -mod "Nerf Gun Mod" (quotes needed). Soldat should then run with that mod loaded.

Hope that helped.

Wow. Thanks a whole bunch to both of you. :D *applauds*

EDIT: Okay, another problem. xtishereb, that only works for .zip files. What happens if a mod is an .exe?

Depends.
If the .exe explicitly states it will install inside the mods directory (Vltava's mods, Ivan's mods), install into the Soldat folder, but keep a copy of your unregistered interface handy in case it gets overwritten and you don't want it to be.
If the .exe does not state it will be installed in the mods directory (many of Serial Killer's mods), then just to be safe, have it install to Soldat\Mods\<name of mod> (i.e., C:\Soldat\Mods\CS Mod). Open the folder once it installation is complete, and make sure it has the same folders as other .zip files.
If it does, then the mod has been successfully installed. Launch it like any other mod.
If it has a "mods" folder, then it was actually of the first type. You can delete what was installed and try again, or cut and paste those files into the main Soldat folder. You can then launch the mod.

Glad to help.
