Slight EXP balance complaint...
« on: January 27, 2007, 10:14:29 pm »
... WHY is the AK-74 only 1 point more powerful then the MP5?
Doesn't the MP5 like, shoot pistol bullets? The AK-74 is a rifle, being only slightly stronger then the MP5 is just... ridiculous!
The AK-74 will be useless! It's already a bit underused (esp in the Aus Soldat area), why make it worse?

I though that the MP5 fired a 9mm round compared to the AK74 which to my knowledge fired a 5.45mm round. and since the MP5 has a larger heaver round it should in turn do more damage then the 74. The reason that it dosnt is because a 74 round is designed to tumble when it hits the body and that is why it is onle 1 point more power ful because the tumbling of the round adds a little more damage but not by much.

ak has range, bullet speed, and clipsize on the mp5. Try not to factor in real life in a game where people have jets in their shoes.

Damage * Speed = Strength

Mp5: 102 * 189 = 19278
Ak: 103 * 240 = 24720

Even if it shoots like five bullets a second? It can rip a soldier in half in a matter of moments.

It takes 10 bullets (at most, least being 6) onscreen for the new AK-74 to make a kill, that is without misses.
With the movement acc (which is... hard), it would take way less mp5 bullets to kill someone then with the AK, even when shooting at a distance.

I think stats are the worst thing that happined to this game, people are trying to balance guns with text battles instead of actually playing it in game.

When you develop a system to turn abstract ideas into hard code without giving guns stats, let us know. Actually, let more than us know, that'll be a magnificent leap in programming in general.
When you get down to it, you have to have some text component to balancing guns, as just playing Soldat doesn't cut it.

The 5.45mm (5.45x39mm) bullet has a muzzle velocity of 900m/s and a 9x19mm bullet has a muzzle velocity of ca. 380m/s So you see it's more than 2 times faster.
You also have to mention, that the 5.45 round can travel longer ways due it's long but rather slim shape, where the 9mm bullet isn't as aerodynamic as the rifle round with it's 9x19mm.
If you want to mention realism, be accurate, you can't just take the thickness of the caliber to define the strength.
BANG! 5:45 o' clock. It's the police raiding your home, blackmailing you.

I think the lesson is, don't read it, try it.

Even the beta team to this day'll bicker a little based on stats alone, but discussion soon becomes more solid and progressive when it involves people that have actually used these weapons in it's proper environment.

And let us all remember the time Michal said back in 1.2.1 that he had increased the power of the AK74. He didn't say how much.
Complaints came rolling in from all directions, death threats flooding his email.... "The AK is too powerful! you've ruined Soldat!" they all cried. In reality? he had increased the damage by 1 single point, which in testing, made absolutely no difference to the amount of shots required to kill a player than in the previous version.

Do not let what you read influence you, and try things for what they really are in the kind of situations where they're put to their limit ...hence the balance can be tested on both the NA gather, Euro gather (both found on IRC), and the Soldat Forums server. Feel free to host the balances on your own servers too.

Weapon-mods FTW!  ::)
Personally I always imagine the AK as a powerful Mid-to-Close range weapon with poor accuracy at long distances. Sort of similar to the MP5 but with more accuracy and less bullets per kill.
