weapon skins: ultimate sniper line
« on: January 30, 2007, 05:17:37 pm »
My friend says he changes weaponskins so that they are huge, and show where the bullet will go.  It not only completely nulls any server with the sniper line disabled, but  it can help you by showing a line that is a little more accurate than the sniper line for arcing bullets.  Note, i haven't tried this yet, nor has he tried all these things, he's just done the barret, so maybe one or another of these benefits isn't possible.  Anyway, do u think that doing that to guns is unsportsmanlike?

The best idea is putting a cursor over barrets, so it is impossible for them to camp in the bushes, without a little \/"sniper" over their heads.
Without originality society is doomed.

Bah...camping is part of the game, deal with it.

And no, I think making alterations like that are just weak.  It's a borderline cheat in my opinion.  From what I gather, he does this so he can see other peoples barrets/sniper lines?

If so, that's just pathetic.

Personally, I don't do it. It does sound like a good idea, though. It may be a bit unsports-man-like, but as long as we are able to edit our weapon skins and gosteks, people will always do this.

It used to be impossible in previous versions, weapons had a size limit I think. It will be impossible in the next version (guesswork  again).

I made the grenades bigger because i could never see them when they where default, now they are white and red and i can even tell how many someone has if i look closely enough!

I used to have this really long barrett targeting line, but it was nearly useless, as it obviously didn't account for bink/movement acc, and mostly just got in the way. Plus, in games where there's a lot of barrett users (translation: Pubs; which is where I play) there were red lines all over the screen.

I suppose it was useful for giving away hiders, but it got annoying after a while, so I took it out.

If you have trouble finding bad guys who camp, move your mouse over the hiding spots. You see there names if someone is there...

Shooting a quick burst into bushes such as on equinox never hurts, and it binks the snipers. You hit them once, their aim is ruined, and then they have to Socom.

I wouldn't use this. Like Geo said, this is a very close tie as a cheat.

Besides, play the old fashioned way.

Bullets and skin.

I edited the sniper line to be red and visible, and i put red rectangles on the m79 bullet and nade. doesnt help on high ping servers, but when playing with ping <60 you can dodge most nades as you are able too see them very well.

If they're crouching or prone (which, while camping, is likely) hovering won't work.

And yeah, most of these serve primarily to get in the way.

I once went down to that level, but all the red lines made the server look like a crazy laser show, so I took it off so save my sanity.

I edited "<- HE'S RIGHT HERE" in annoying red and white text to be in front of wherever the barret's aiming. In similar motif, I edited the M79 to be a large and obvious wooden signpost with "SHOOT ME" and an arrow pointing back towards the user written on it. 90% of campers can't hide from me.

Hey guys, we've already had this discussion over the Barret Hax, though I have doubts about your friend's version being any better than Mistercharles', since he put in partial transparency.
I did think about doing that for each of the weapon's bullet curves, but they're different depending on where you're aiming, so it's not very useful.

yes, you would theoretically have to ignore it when shooting down or up

well, maybe this should be moved to improvements, because ya'll have me convinced that this should be limited.  Cheats that are undetectable are the worst kind...
You couldn't and shouldn't ban gosteks that simply make something easier to see, or nulls camo.

i do, but too many maps have way too many bushes to check.

Got skills? Play the game the way it was meant to be played.
Borderline cheats aren't very nice, unfortunately, there's nothing anyone can do. >_<

I think that modifying the barret to give such an advantage is entirely unethical and unsportsmanlike. It's definitely unfair because not everybody will know that it's even possible or how to do it, and it takes away from certain aspects of Soldat that I think are inherent to the game, such as camping (which doesn't always have to be lame if done tactically).

I know for certain that SCTFL (Soldat Capture The Flag League) bans this type of modification, and I suspect that the other major leagues do as well. I'm hoping that with 1.3.2, we'll once again see a limit on the size of the weapons to prevent this type of activity in online games.

Only cheap mods I use is the pikmin mod (I can see people hiding in bushes!) and my rainbow nades.
