I am looking for a small group of people with creative game ideas.

A Few Things About the Game:
  • Side-view Shooter
  • Multiplayer
  • NOT SOLDAT II

Anyone with ideas can participate!
The discussion will most likely occur over AIM.

Anywho, Fitzpatrick, why are you asking for ideas ? Are you some sort of amazing programmer who can whip up a game in minutes ?

Alright. Seems you all would like to know a little more about me.
I am a programmer.
I have not coded a game of this size before and was playing with the idea of creating one.
I didn't want to create another "Help Me Make The Best Game Ever" topic, so I thought I'd be discreet.
I didn't want people to get their hopes up, because I am not 100% sure if I will create the game or not.
So there you have it! A little bit about me and my motives. ;)

So are any of you still interested?

Make it and then we will think about the title? However you can "try" to make Soldat "3D 2D" on Quake 3 engine, i would map for you default Soldat maps on the q3 engine. It would be fun running with AK in 3D world on a 2D map :P

EDIT: What language do you use?
Fix and disable this "C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE" It's a harmful trojan.

I think it's better to have some working code (or even a demo with the major components implemented) before making any announcements. Good luck with it anyway.

My code is written in C++.
 I am familiar with Direct X, but will probably give OpenGL a try.
As for previous experience, my biggest piece of code was for a bank & atm.
I will admit, I don't have much knowledge of game programming, as it is just a hobby.
I plan to go to school to learn game programming, so that I can break into the industry.

@Anna: I looked at some of the links you posted and none of them are like mine.
All I want is a group of people who would like to bounce ideas off one another.
From that, I will see what people are interested in & will decide what to do from there.
But I would like to thank you for the links & the good luck! Its greatly appreciated!

Hmm.. What about making an game like Deathrally, or Turbo Sliders. Top-down racing game, either in simple 3D or in plain 2D.

If you have no real experience, you should play around with OpenGL for some days/weeks, testing out stuff. It will probably iron out the problems which may occur later. Can't really say, but thats what I would do at least. :)

What about using SDL? :P

Thanks for the link to the library. Could prove very useful!
I already planned on playing around with OpenGL before programming.
I'll look into those games you mentioned.

Well, you can do OpenDL stuff via SDL also. SDL can handle networking, sounds, music, keuboard and mouse, graphics, threading.. Everything you need in game development. :)

I finished looking at the games you suggested.
They are interesting, but are not quite what I was thinking.
I would like the game to have people & weapons.
I was thinking of making a more tactical game.
Your thoughts? Any other game suggestions?
Even if they aren't what I am looking for, they are ideas!

How about a 3-D Rendered 2-D world?

To understand what I am talking about, not a true 3-D game, but a 2-D game rendered with 3-D maps and Graphics.

I can think of a few onther ideas, if you want to hear them.

Of the same idea, but with one major difference:

My idea included the maps. DKC only 3d rendered the characters.
