CPUfreeyer (under Construcion)
« on: February 02, 2007, 05:34:23 pm »
I currently making a program thats frees up cpu usage so if u have like a old pletium 2 or pletium 3 computer it it will make soldat start up faster so soldat dosent lag that much, the program works by freezing prossers like svchost and stealing cpu usage form explore.exe

i curruntly stopped work on the program cause it screws up my computer every time i quit soldat, i post some screenies later

DONE! (it dosent really work well)

Hmm, in which language is it written in? Pletium -> Pentium, I assume. Pretty nice idea tho, if it works, might come handy for some players. :)

Good thought but why you bother ? There are many programs that free CPU usage automatically if you need it.

Well, GJ if it really works as it should. Something like this integrating into Soldat would probably work out. :o

freezing the svchost.exes arent exactly the best idea, some of them manage your sound drivers, and other drivers like keyboard and such

FLAB told me that was not recommended long ago.

Soldat shouldnt take up much compared to other games. Just close out all unneccisary (sp?) apps. An app like this has never been done before so why not.

On a side note: The absolute best thing you can do for Soldat is to tweak your RWIN settings. Too low of an RWIN can give you sort of choppy game play while too high of an RWIN can cause packet loss. To calculate your RWIN do a speed test. Take your maximum download speed number and times it by 100 then divide that number by 8. Take that number and divide it by 1500 then round your total to the nearest whole number. Last, take that whole number and times it by 1500. This final number will tell you what your RWIN should be. Keep in mind this is for most broadband connections. For the uber geeks out there you can follow this equation..

TcpWindowSize (RWIN) FORMULA
------------------------------------------
(Maximum Bandwidth x Maximum Anticipated Latency) / 8

Example of a connection with a 3000 download cap with a maximum latency of 100 ms:

(3000 x 100) / 8 = 37500 To make it a multiple of MSS divide by 1460:

37500 / 1460 = 25.68 Then round up to the nearest even whole number:

26 x 1460 = 37960 - Optimum RWIN

Hmmm good idea, idk if all it does is set the soldat.exe at a higher priority or does some thing task manager cant do.
