Play N!
« on: February 09, 2007, 06:52:40 pm »
N

I'm sure most people here have heard of the game N, partially inspired by Soldat. For those who haven't,
Quote
The website says
N has been described as reminiscent of lode runner -- you're a little dude running around in a puzzle-y world inhabited by enemies.

But in N, there's a twist: the ninja is driven not only by a thirst for gold, but also by a physics simulation.

Death, which happens often, is quite animated.

Here's a couple of screenshots, shamelessly stolen from the website.

What some of you might not be aware of, however is the very nice mapmaker included in the game. Simply press \ or | on the title screen to be taken into NED. There's more instructions in a readme in the game folder.
Here's some levels I made. To play them, copy the contents of the .txt file and paste it into userlevels.txt in the N folder. Save, then run N. They should be available to play in the user levels section.

Finally someone has brought the link in my sig to light after all this time. :P

The game is indeed amazing, especially for being coded completely in flash. Some of you guys should really join the forums. Although, right now, they're being upgraded with a new skin, so it's temporarily offline. It's only IPB being hosted by Forumer for free, though, so it's not as customizable as these ones or VB.

I loved that game!  The N forums was where I found Soldat.  Sad that I don't play N anymore; it was a fantastic puzzler.  Instant classic!

EDIT: Who here is a big fan of Race maps?  I think they're awesome and have made several races a long time ago.

Some if its amazingness:

- There are 100 episodes, with each episode being 5 levels long.
- Comprehensive map editor like Sticky said. Maps can be uploaded to the N User Map Archive, (NUMA) for others to comment, rate, and enjoy for themselves.
- Many tournaments, contests, and special projects are held on the forums. The NTTS, (Numa Time Trial Society) and the Legacy Project is one of the largest mappacks simply added onto your Userlevels file, the original being 400 levels, and the Expanse is over 300. Countless others can be found on the forums, giving the game unlimited replay value.
- Complete highscores server.
- A great community to be found at the forums.
- The N Wiki.
- IRC channel based from the forums. ( //irc.waypasteleven.com/N )

And there's so much more to be found. Download this little gem, (Only 1 MB) be a part of the community, and enjoy yourself! :D

You can start on the other columns without having to complete the ones before...

I loved this game with a passion.

I once played it for 12! Hours! Straight! on a completely evil level in the 10 column... I think it was in 12 or 13.

Simply amazing.

The real shocker is that it is made in flash.

My progress:

Oh, and Sticky, wait until you hit 88-4 and 89-4. ;) I know I haven't unlocked these levels yet, but I've watched highscore runs of them from the main menu.

The reason why the 80's column is the hardest is because it was supposed to be the last column in the game in version 1.3. When 1.4 was released, an impromptu 90s column was created.. Check out the version history here.

I just managed to unlock episode 67. Take that, stupidly difficult level 65-4!
