"Allow voting?" option
« on: March 08, 2007, 05:25:09 pm »
As the host of a server that almost always has an admin connected to the console, the game, or both, I would love to have to ability to prevent players from starting votes. Preferably, in addition to "on" and "off," there could be an "admin-only" option that would only allow admins of the server to start votes. This isn't really necessary since ( respect["EnEsCe"]++ ) scripting would allow for an admin console command to initiate a vote.

It was just a thought; I'm interested to see what other people think of this idea.

Well, you can always use /vote% to set the percentage needed positive votes to make a succesfull vote.

/vote% 101 will set voting off, and everything lower than that will enable it.

Not true. I've tried setting the success percentage to 101; I've also tried setting it to 200. Soldat seems to round down anything above 100. :-\ A unanimous vote will always succeed.

I think It'd be alright. I wouldn't use it but I can see how others would.

Hmmm, I have never seen any votes on my server after I set vote% to 110. Maybe it is because I always press F11 when I see a vote on publics.

Settings vote% to > 100% only stops votes from actually passing, that does not stop them from popping up completely. I will add something in to not display votes at all if the vote percentage is set over 100%.

is it possible to turn off the auto vote option? well im just guessing its an auto vote thingy coz the one who starts the vote is called "Server". I got banned once already coz it thought I was cheating and I see cheaters getting away without ever getting voted against. I hope its off by default coz it aint really working well.

@Chains:
Soldat.ini find the line that says:
Disable_AntiCheat_Kick=0
change the 0 to a 1 and it will disable the auto votes, but your server will be full of hackers.

yea probably but arent there alternative methods to fight hackers?
I got banned on that server weeks ago and im still banned, im sure alot of fair players get banned like this (I got voted against in several servers quite a few times, luckily I was playing with nice ppl that didnt press "yes").

I think an automated system should avoid banning fair players at all costs, even when it means more hackers.

I dunno how the current system works but if it are just IP bans you will lose alot of fair players and probably very few hackers, because hackers know how to get around it, most casual players dont.

Anyway, I'll post a new topic with my view on this.

:-\ As I said above, I've tried setting it to 101 and 200 on my passworded test server. With both settings, a unanimous vote among myself and three friends always suceeded. The only reason that never happens on my real server is because there's almost always an admin (or one of the few non-admins that play my server whom I consider intelligent) online to vote "No."

Also, will this new addition prevent the use of a scripted console command to start a vote? If not, will it mean that the script has to use ID 255 to work?
