my specs.. good or bad?
« on: February 19, 2007, 06:59:25 pm »
i just bought me a new PC..

3,6 AMD dual core something ;D
2048 DDR2 RAM :o
radeon x.. something 512RAM ???

and i think i should be able to play F.E.A.R. and supreme commander really nice ;)

and i have a question.. when a graphic card is "built in" the motherboard, is there anyway to insert a new one? it dosn't look like it.. i think "built in" graphic cards suck.. don't they? :-\

Integrated ones usually suck when it comes to gaming, yes. If you see an empty PCI Expressx16 slot on your motherboard, you get a new graphics card.

Other than that, you have a kick ass pc :)

Good shit, man.

I only have...

512 RAM (Actually it's only 448, look at my Graphics card)
2 GHz 3500+ AMD Sempron Processor. I've been told that the GHz in Semprons don't matter as much as the number before the name does, so this is actually good, I suppose.
256 MB ATI Radeon X200 Graphics card. (Yes, it's integrated.) >:(

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

No that computer sucks, throw that one away and spend 10000 dollars for a good one.

Ah might aswell post my specs. AMD 3400+ Sempron, 512mb RAM, XPRESS 200 64 mb intergrated (not bad...for an intergrated card) and 180 gb HDD

Yes you can put new video cards into computers with integrated ones and yes integrated ones usually suck.

Since yours has a Radeon with 512MB of memory, yours isn't integrated (I'm not sure if you were asking that or not)

I hear the more newer games won't work with onboard cards anymore... not run poorly or the cards aren't to standard... won't friggin run!

I never post my specs on here. Have no idea why not.

Oh wait, I think it's because my pc is about ten years old.

Well at least I don't still have cable. Oh, and I have XP; that's about it.

I don't know shit about computers. All I know is that it's kinda like a small tv on my table, and this funny metal box that makes noices when you push the button makes it run. In fact I hate computers.

Oh yes, integrated cards blow, no matter what kind.

If you want a new video card, grab a Radeon X1900, they're really starting to go down in price (that's which one i got, for only $200).  An NVidia 7600 or 7800 will also do you good too.

You have a kickass PC other than that ^_^

I have...

2.8 Ghz Intel Pentium D (I think, its a dual core of some kind)
ATI Sapphire Radeon X1900GT 256MB Pci-Ex16
1024 MB RAM (lol, i had GB in there)

I can run Battlefield 2 at 60 - 100 FPS with no issues
So if you get a new card, it'll pwn even harder than mine ;D

I plugged my Atari into the good ol' 1970's television set.
Does this count as a "computer"?

Specs:
CPU: 1.19MHz
RAM: 128 Bytes
Colors: 16 (4 max on screen)
Resolution: Tape Cartridges
Sound: Soundblaster Mono

It runs on Windows Vista :)

If you bought a system and you didn't install a graphics card yourself its an onboard card, so you need to get a new one.

Haha, incredibly wrong. Even HP sells built-systems with external graphics cards.

Basically, if your video card uses RAM as opposed to dedicated graphics memory, it's integrated. It's definitely external if there's a card with a huge fan sticking out of the other big card with the fan sticking out.

Not good, but not horrible either.

You probably have some shitty integrated GFX car though.

Athlon XP 2600+ (1.966 GhZ)
ASRock K7S8XE Rev. 3
1 GB DDR-RAM PC333 (not 100% sure 100% sure about its frequency now)
PNY GeForce 7600 GS / 256 MB DDR2-RAM (AGP)
running WnXP SP2

its probably - maybe except for the processor the maximum of what you can and should do upgrade with a good old AGP system. Seeing that there are hardly any new AGP cards coming out, facing the fact that the maximum processor speed that I could upgrade with my system isnt really far above the currently installed one, the next step is buying a new system with a PCI-E enabled motherboard sooner or later. So far, this machine is a good plattform for newer games that are not stuffed with highend gfx and effects, and even titles that are more hungry for hardware can mostly be played on medium settings.

On topic: your settings are quite fine. Concerning the gfx card, you might use Everest Home Edition or simply the ATI Control Center or Device manager to check what model it exactly is,  the X... cards differ greatly in performance. A 512 mb built-in card would be rather uncommon, although its not impossible, since it might not have true 512 MB of RAM, but uses up to 512 mb of your 2 GB system ram (the shared memory stuff is often masked with terms like "HyperMemory" or "TurboCache"). Besides that, your pc should suit most games for at least 2 years.

DDR2 is the standard now. I guess the difference is that DDR2 is faster.
