Puzzle: The Bus
« on: February 20, 2007, 05:50:29 pm »
Dunno if this has been posted before..
Note: There is a reasonable answer to this.
Also Note: Most kids in kindergarden gets this right. (I didn't)

This is a simple drawing of a Norwegian bus.
Which way is it going? left or right? And how do you know?

Hmm, I've only got a logical answer to this question. Which is obviously wrong seeing as the question specifies the bus to be Norwegian and the shape of the bus being of a whimsical nature.

First, I'll assume that because it's a Norwegian bus (That being that the bus is servicing in Norway) that it would be driving on the right side of the road. Therefore the bus driver would have to be sitting on the left hand side of the bus (Facing forwards). Now as there is no visible door on the side of the bus on the drawing, I'm led to believe the door to enter the bus is on the other side.

Therefore the bus driver would have to be located at the front of the bus to be able to see where he is driving and therefore, from the drawing view, the bus is going left.

Now proceed to tell me why I am wrong.

Oh, this is as simple as it gets.

See, all I have to do is subtract what I know of left, from what I know of right : see, if this so called 'bus' were moving right, it would also be 'right' as in the right side of parliament; which we all know is the seat of the opposition. Because of this 'opposition', I can clearly determine that the bus would be 'opposed' from moving to the 'right' !

Now you'd think that I'd choose left, but I'm just getting started.

The left signifies sinistrality, so a bus moving with the left would be a sinister bus. And, as we are all taught in Kindergarten, blue is a 'cool' colour, not the hot headedness that often associates itself with sinister behaviors !

...

Where was I ? Oh yes, so I can clearly not choose the left !

Because you bested Panzercatwagon (whom I am assured had the incorrect answer), I know you are smart; and a smart person would never allow themselves to be placed with the opposition, so I can clearly not choose the right !

You have also used a bold text mod, which means you are strong and would shy away from the sinister side ! Of course now, the answer is clear : lookout, an alien !

*runs away laughing*.

The preferred outcome of war is peace. Ironic, huh ?

The bus isn't going nowhere because the wheels aren't attached to the bus!

That is Logical, Also, Depends what side of the bus you are facing.

the bus is moving forward.

That is the front of the bus, the circles are headlights.

It isn't going anywhere. Drawings don't move on their own.

Maybe, it's going right. (kindergardeners would know that because they are taught to read left to right? or are they in Norway?)
otherwise, I'd go with what PANZERCATWAGON or mar77a said because to me they both sound equally correct.

You're all dumb.

It's the front view of a bus. (That is, unless those norwegians have buses different from ours)

It's going to the left, because the door must be on the far side (the one we can't see).

The answer I was looking for was left, and the reason was as PANZERCATWAGON kindly explained that the door is on the other side.

It's not going because it has no doors, therefore, the people cannot get in to drive the bus.

Assuming you by English mean from Great Britain, driving in Great Britain, then it would be going Right, as they drive on the wrong left side of the road, so, the door would be on the other side..
