Smith and Wesson....I'm missing something...
« on: March 04, 2007, 11:06:04 pm »
Okay folks, seeing as how I've got a nice(r) job with lots more pay than I'm used to, I've got quite a bit more spending cash than I thought I'd have, and I just cannot seem to get rid of it fast enough.
     I'm a big S&W guy, I'm all about those wheelguns. I currently have a 686 (.357MAG) with a 6" barrel, and a 500 (.500MAG) with an 8 3/8s" barrel.
Today I got a real nice price on a 617 (.22lr) 10-shot with a 6" barrel for only $400, but now I'm feeling empty.
Should I get a .44MAG to fill in between the 686 and 500? Should I wait until I actually have my 617 and have fired it first? I would of course get a 629 with a 6 1/2" barrel, because even though a good ol' Harry 29 classic would be nice, a 629 stainless would make what I've got a COLLECTION.

Should I wait, go ahead, or go for the full .41 .44 .45ACP .460 run-through?

Damnit....get a Deagle, or a glock. If all else fails, buy a Colt 1911A2 ;)

(apparently) glock = big no no

why not wait a bit and try out your 617? might make your decision a little easier... or just get all of the fuckers

btw peemonkey is it true that the heavier the gun the less recoil it has?

Ew, don't suggest getting a Desert Eagle. They jam constantly, and aren't nearly as awesome as the world of video games have glorified them to be.

I also hate Glocks. I've only been acquainted with a Glock 20, but it wasn't exactly a wonderful experience. Plus, they're ugly.

Living in England, I can't just go and "buy a gun" unless I (A: fill in a huge ass form and get loads of signitures and have some "firearms officer" check weather im sane or not (fail  [retard]), (B: be a farmer (I'm in Norfolk, so thats a start) or (C: know any underground gun dealers. But as this isn't America, the chances are that I won't have to defend against someone with anougher gun in the first place. :P

Why don't you get a pistol? Aren’t revolvers quite....old hat? I've heard they’re easier to maintain though.

Revolvers are indeed easier to clean and maintain, and it's not possible to "jam" in the conventional sense unless you have a broken one.

Plus, they're extremely badass.

An air rifle. Especially if you've never shot a real one before. Otherwise, get something in a small caliber. A .22 should work well if you aren't shooting anything crazy like a moose at extended range.

@ captain ben: yes, heavier guns have less recoil. I don't know what it's called in english, but it's the same as when you kick a dvd case or a train. kick the relatively light dvd case and you'll send it flying. kick the train, and it won't budge. simply because it's heavier. (assuming you don't kick the train from the side.. it will be held back by the rails a little)

1. I'll never buy a glock, unless it's to shoot it with a S&W.

2. Desert Eagles are for kids who like to play counterstrike and don't have enough money to find out how lousy they are.

3. If I get an autopistol again, it will surely be a 1911. Kimber, perhaps....again.

I've actually seen a revolver jam, and sorry, it was a Raging Bull.  Always be weary of brazillian steel.

I might just go ahead and buy the 629, never know when I'll have this much money just wandering around in my checking account again.

i was a bit mixed up with that because apparently some pistols are powerful enough to break your arm...

Well, I've already got the most powerful one. I get custom loads of 500gr for my 500S&W in 500MAG...might be confusing if you don't know too much about guns, but it equals massive firepower in a pretty managable package.

Alot of people say you should shoot a .22 first, but I feel it has the wrong effect in some cases. There's very little recoil in any .22, where the next step up is going to be considerably heavier in felt recoil. If you're a guy and not built like a sapling, I'd say go ahead and start with something more badass at first with only 1 round in the firearm. My first shot fired was with a 12ga, it put on some fade, but then I knew what to expect. Were it a .22, I'd expect alittle more like a .22 and hold the 12ga wrong.
I dunno.

4-year-old, I've got a little system set up where most of my paycheck goes to bills, than alot goes to another account for emergencies, and what's left goes to food and fun. We've got alot of food, so It's time for fun.
