CTF_Open Mine
« on: March 07, 2007, 07:02:08 pm »
A symmetrical ctf map that I made as a concept.

The idea was to keep the flag in an area that could be easily protected.

I made it dark, for the atmosphere of a raid. I Finally scenery'd it. Not very much, but it's something.

**It isn't waypointed. Please, if someone would waypoint it I would be extremely grateful. Pweeze?**

Any suggestions for design, for the name, or for object placement, please tell me.

For the new version, I changed the name from The W Zone to Open Mine.
I hope you don't mined.
[/shameless_pun]
I also added a custom texture. It worked well.

neeeds WAY more complexion and shading and scenery and basically, it needs work.
Not that it suxk, I'm just saying, add another route, add more scenery, make the background colored, work on it.

Pretty much what iDante said. The vertex colors are extremely bland, the texture isn't stretched anywhere, there is almost no use of scenery, and the one hill is the only route, which makes for rather boring play (but if jets are disabled and the layout was heavily modified, the hill could be really cool for trench-warfare)... sickeningly, this is still a good map compared to some that I've seen :P I really don't want to sound like a jerk, but I wouldn't like to lie about my opinion either, so to put it bluntly, the map is a bit less than average.

I guess the object-positioning is all right, but the flag's cramped spawn is weird; players can just camp at their flags and 'nade-spam down the spawn ramp, and it just feels smushed at the bases, really—it doesn't have, like... the flair of something like ctf_Voland, ya know? ;) Layout is important, even if the colors and other aesthetics aren't very strong, so try to come up with a good layout first. Keep working.

hey, the new version is much better. Layout is good... all I would say now is make it a tad lighter and add more scenery, maybe a few sandbags on the hill and some stuff down lower. A map with too little scenery can get boring.

Alright, I will work on scenery and shading.
I don't think I am going to end up calling it The W Zone, because it doesn't look as much like a W as I originally designed it.
Any suggestions for name?

Updated again! Whoo!

Some scenery added and shaded more.

Still need to find a good name.

Any changes from here on out will be purely cosmetic...

Please, could someone waypoint it?

It could need better shading still, I don't like the texture and I think it's too dark

try your hand at waypoints. if you have questions ask keron cyst or w/e. I respect someone who at least attempts their own waypoints waaay more than someonee who doesnt.

alright, I will try it.

It can't be any harder than the actual mapping part, anyway.

Just need to go in with a positive attitude.

I remember trying to waypoint my very first map in Soldat...

when the bots malfunctioned, I was so discouraged I didn't touch it again for months

kinda off topic- Hahaha, yeah that's how I feel about the ctf map I attempted to make. The map is pretty horrible now that I look at it and the waypoints just suck.
