Animations
« on: March 14, 2007, 11:46:03 am »
Hi Modding Pros,
I have a big problem: I have to finish my "Modding-Manual". I've done a lot, but I already have to write about the translation (default.txt) AND: the animations.

I guess you know, that it's really hard!  :-\ But this project is very important for me and for all the SOLDAT-fans.

So, please, can everybody, who knows anything about it, post it in this thread? I need eveything, cause I have no plan. translations of the polish files, the functiosn of the frames, ...

I would thank you a lot!

It's recommended to edit default.txt with a text editor that doesn't add or remove any "hidden" characters. I believe mistercharles recommends TextPad, I have used it to make a custom language which replaces every instance of the word "kill" with "tag". NotePad, included with Windows, is not very good for editing default.txt, though it is fine for weapons.txt.

There is a list of the animation translations with the POA Editor. There's a mirror of it here.

Good luck with your modding guide!

I didn't found anything like this in the "help.chm"-file.
Could somebody be so nice and post the translation? :-\

Run the program, and open an animation from the pop-up menu. The name in the menu is the translation of the filename, that is be visible in Poa Editor's titlebar once you've opened the animation.

You could also check out english.txt and polish.txt in the data directory.

Ahh, right. But that was not very heplfull, cause the names of he animations don't tell me enough.
Some of them sound like the same.

So does anybody has a good translation or some skills in Animation-Modding?
I really have to finish my Modding-Manual and it should consist of clear and important informations of any topic.

Thx a lot

It's not exactly clear what you mean by "animations"..

Well.. at least not that clear to me. - Are you referring to frame-by-frame image sequence animations? (e.g. explosions, flames)

Or are you obscurely referring to the gostek image files? (which have polish names)

 - if that is the case then this should help

He is referring to the .poa files in Soldat\Anims, the actual animations.

Yes, I mean the .poa-files of the Folders "Anims" and "Objects".

The problem is, that I'm not skilled in modding them with the Editor (NOTEPAD) and I'm not able to teach it by myself, too.

So I just need somebody, who knows the function of any .poa-file and who can answer me some questions, e.g.:

There are 3 numbers for the positions for a point of a soldiers leg, maybe. The first one is the x-position and the last one is the y-position (2D). But what is the number between the first and the third number for?

You don't need to use Notepad. I already mentioned the POA Editor which can help you mod animations easily.

Yes, I know. But I want to understand, how it works, you know?
So I have to know, what the frames mean.

It's just a translation mashine! But it won't help me to understand, how the animations work.

So there's nobody, who already made a english translation?!

Mhh...Well...

And are there some Modders, who ever made experiences with changing the animations with "NOTEPAD"?

Where is the producer of the "Eradication-Mod" for example? He worked with animations, right?!

Can you tell me the general knowledge, maybe?

numgun made Eradication Wars, but he didn't change any animations. Any changes that may have showed in the mod were done by Lord Ivahn.
