Chainsaw
« on: March 18, 2007, 02:51:04 am »
Chainsaw is not completely one-hit kill as of 1.5b. In fact, it has never been one-hit kill as far as I know; the short fire interval just make it so it seems that it is. When I say 'one-hit kill', I mean killing an enemy in full health with just ONE 'ammo'.

Even with the increased speed in 1.5b, it is possible to hit your enemies' legs ONCE and not killing them. With lag and the movement speed of the players, it is very often that you would hit someone once with chainsaw and leave them with like 1% health. And yes, for a chainsaw user, every % of damage counts. Actually, this just happened to me twice when I was messing with bots, within 5 minutes.

Considering that chainsaw is a close range only weapon, I think it's reasonable to make it completely one-hit kill. Since increasing the speed will also affect the range, adding ~100 damage to the weapon will definitely solve the problem.

Yeah, I agree. I was surprised when I first realized it wasn't a guaranteed one-hit kill -- you need a good bit of speed to get it there, and while the effect is usually the same, lag or hit detection can get annoying. The new version supposedly has fixed those issues though, so perhaps it'll be more one-hit kill-like, even if the chainsaw technically remains a two-hit kill.

Also agree, I suggest upping the damage even more to achieve this effect.

It is liek grenades, they have an insane damage, but they still arn't instant kill.
You just need to up it even more.

In 1.4 there'll be a "Recoil"-value in the realistic_weapons.ini.

Actually, the saw should have a firing rate of 1 to provide a bigger chance of killing your enemy.

Yeah, non-lethal pass-throughs suck. I'd say speed over damage, as the times I've rushed through people for no damage outweigh the times I've damaged but not quite killed.
