Using Cheat Engine to Record
« on: March 24, 2007, 07:09:01 pm »
First let me put this off, I only use Cheat Engine as a way to record with my crappy computer. I honestly have no clue how to do much else with it.

Anyways, I'm going through Soldat Demos and using fraps to record them. Problem is, I have a really crappy computer so they don't always come out at best quality. My solution to this is to run Cheat Engine on Soldat.exe and use the speedhack feature to slow the demo down so its running at about 10% speed. At that point, I fraps it and put it into a video editing program and speed it back up. In this way, I can pick up every single frame, and when you put it through After Effects for example and increase the speed about 1000%, it has excellent quality as if I was running it on my dream computer.

Now, the issue is that Soldat.exe does not like me doing this. Soldat spams me with errors the instant I start recording with fraps, or in the middle of recording it freaks out. Very frustrating, and its random when it does this. It could be that it is impossible to record soldat with cheat engine, or my computer is just REALLY crappy.

Anyone know a solution?

1) Cheat Engine is a hacking program for many games
2) You shouldn't be even using cheat engine or talking about hacks
3) You're gonna get ban
4) Buy a better computer

If you're one of these hackers that made the soldat servers so miserable, you're gonna get your hacking ass banned so quick, you'd wished you never were born. *counts down to ban*

I'm going to add something in here: Soldat itself allows you to specifiy a speed for demo playback from the commandline, so you can run it at 10% speed without the use of external tools; as well, you can disable the UI when you do this, not to mention being able to auto-save every frame to BMP.

So basically, using FRAPS you can do it with soldat as a two-step process(if you need audio): Record the audio at 100% speed, then record the video at 10% speed.

Or just use FRAPS for audio, and let soldat save the frames for you.
