I'm through
« on: June 26, 2006, 09:58:02 pm »
For the time I've been playing soldat, and hanging in the forums, I have done little things for this community, not big things like make a new forums, or host servers (not directing this attack at Flies). But, I've offered to make sigs for the people of this forums, made storys, and even offered to help out with countless other things. I've made maps, and offered to help out the INF mapping community, but after doing all this for a community so big, and not getting a thankyou or anything. I make sigs, all I get is "Userbars are crap" or "Those just look like shit" and cracking not-so-funny jokes about the work I do. The maps I did (which I refuse to put on here) were laughed out of the forums, the storys are just completely ignored, and evey godamn thread I make here IS SPAMMED!, so I'm through with trying to help a community that is so godamn rude. Want Sigs? Go to hell...Find someone whos a "pro" to do them...

(And don't call me emo, cause I ain't...)

You'll live through it, BoneCollector. It's hard to try to earn the respect of uneducated swines without any attitude control, and the people that do truly deserve that large amount of respect. Truth is, that's how the world operates on that topic. If you really want to help someone, then you should do it without expecting positive results.

Ur trying too hard. Just hang out. Anything worth doing takes time.

This is a problem I had until my sophomore year. Then I found enlightenment. The biggest problem is you cant be told the answer, you must find it your self.

The biggest hint I can give you it to be open to anything.

Uh who cares? Not sure exactly how long you've been around the forums for but I wouldn't call these forums the friendliest of all places, although it has gotten better over time, it's not that big of a deal like you make it out to be.

Not to mention creating a topic like this really isn't making you look anymore credible than you seem to be at the moment.

It's funny how you tried to list as many things as possible. Even those little things I wouldn't even call contributions. Yeah, I really appreciate them..

The Bone Collector, the problem lies with you, not with other people in the community.  So you contribute a bit, you feel hurt that few people care, and now you're making a thread about it to get some sympathy.  That's normal, but realize that you're being overly selfish and expecting too much from others.

Now I've bluntly attacked you and your first instinct should be to defend yourself before rationally considering that I might be correct, so let me step back for a second.  Yes, you have contributed to the community.  You offered to make signatures for people, you have written stories, and you have created a few maps.  A community like this doesn't exist without thoughtful contributions and for that I thank you.  However, if you continue to expect people to recognize your contributions above others simply because you feel they should, you will always be disappointed -- and expecting a "thank you" for what you have done when you haven't achieved much beyond the average member is exactly that.

Asking for a "thank you" is selfish simply because that's the way society works -- people expect you to contribute and their thanks is simply a use of your service or a nod of recognition.  If they ask you to create a signature for them, if they tell you what a great story you wrote, or if they play your map, that is a kind of thanks.  And people have done these things, you just don't seem to see it.  In fact, you fixate on the criticism, which is fine as long as you learn from it, but not when you pretend as if it's all that exists.

The only people who really deserve a direct "thank you" for everything they've done are people who have been here long enough and worked hard to really impact the community.  So far, everything you've done has only been for self-gratification, the proof lies in the fact that you expect a thanks for it.

Amen Vij.

Or you could look at it this way: if you try really hard to contribute, and expect gratitude, you'll be happy that you don't get tar and feathered. Like me.
