Picture PNG transparency (bug?) - FORUMS (not game)
« on: March 26, 2007, 01:38:57 pm »
Well, short question, why does the png-transparent picture (avatar) have a black/darkdarkblue background? on my desktop it looks fine, and even the signature picture is made with the same program.

Any ideas?
Hmm, any idea what to write here?

because it was the wrong size and the forums auto-resized it.  When it auto-resizes, it discards stuff like animation (takes the first frame) and transparency in gifs and pngs.

Make it obey the avatar size rules before you upload it or link to it, and it will work fine.

You should check out your "transparent" png in IE6.

@Cube: Every version of IE under IE7 has no support at all for transparent PNG's, instead of giving off transparency, it replaces all transparent areas with solid gray.
There are other worlds than these

you could try turning it into a gif, but since it has the gradient in it, I don't think it will work too well.

Yeah, gif images can be bigger than PNG images in many instances.

I suggest that you use photo editing software, like GIMP for Windows, to optimize the PNG for the web. This usually means lowering the quality a tad.

Check it out here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

Well, let's play a game. Guess what program I used. The program is awesome popular and you will know it, but you will never find out which program i used!

BTW, the winner might get a free own avatar if he likes it lol. He just needs to explain me what exactly he wants to have in it.

(btwx2, the style both my avatar and signature are made with/in is called UNI style, from Universal Multigaming Clan, just for you to know)
