Idea for the Barrett/M79

Now I know this would never get implemented, but it's worth mentioning anyways. If anyone has played Sony's Infantry before you will know that the powerful, one hit kill weapons have 'minimum range'.

Basically it stops someone with a one hit kill weapon from running up to you point blank and shooting you in the face. With the barrett/M79 it could be programmed so that if you are within about 2.5 'soldat meters', the bullet would esentially go through you without doing any damage. This would give people a better chance at taking the barrett/M79 out since they know if they get within their minimum range the barrett can't shoot them. It also requires a lot more skill for the barretter.

Now I know that people would say 'zomg how can the most powerful sniper bullet 'go through' someone without killing them! Thats so stupid its not realistic!!!'.Well you already know the answer to that.

Yeah, I do. And, I mean to your post.

 It takes a bit of skill to be able to hold, shoot the Barret and still be able to kill people. You know how with the Barret you now have to wait 1/2 a second to fire after holding the fire button? Combine that with all the bink it can get from autos, and it's weaknesses are right there to exploit.

 As for the M79, because of it's arc, it already has a limit. It doesn't have the endurance to stay in a straight line like the Deagles or Ruger do once it passes through a certain distance.

 There's only a certain line you can avoid crossing before you just have to let skill determine whether someone can kill you with the Barret/M79 or not. You can't keep trying to look for ways to weaken a weapon until it's virtually useless just because you feel it's been to powerful. NO matter what you do, Barret and M79 users will find a way to make the best of the weapons, and you're still going to ultimately claim that it's overpowered.

 So, just let it be, and actually look for a strategy to defeat the Barret and M79 users.

Anyway, miniguns own barrets.
M79 owns M79. lol That made sense.

Except that's already how it is.  Once you get within a certain range with the barret, you're going to miss, simply because your opponent can bink you like crazy.  Think about it.  Autos tend to be short range weapons.  The closer you are, the more often they hit.  The more often the opponent is hit, the more bink he has.  The more bink he has, the harder it is for him to hit you.

The M79 has a maximum range.  Stay out of that range and hammer them.  The barret has a minimum range.  Get into that range and hammer them.  Guess what?  When I use the AK-74 or ruger, my M79 problems go away.  When I use the MP5 or steyr, my barret problems go away.

bink has close to zero effect in close combat, 2k4. If you aim right it doesn't matter if the bullet goes two pixels to one side.

Haha, well, to counter a barret, just run as fast as you can. The barret(ard) user well need to stop in mid air or stop running to hit you. Your respawn time will always be enough to catch up with a barret user. Further more, they will eventually miss, and you will capture the flag. :D

Well, the M79 one is realistic, since the real M79's bullet needs to turn a few times to be armed. If the target is too close, its round will just act like a REALLY FREAKING HUGE bullet, and not explode but crack a few ribs.

The Barret, though, is really easy to hit someone at short range with, unless they're at least someway skilled. They'll know to jump back, erratically, and spray you to h311.
The Barret's already been killed with its disadvantages, so why make it worse? It's fun to run up and own someone in the face with it anyway!

I agree with MOE, the barrett is actually pretty balanced already.

The reload on all the guns is higher than their real reload times in real life. I see no point in that.

A good M79 operator, for instance, can reload an M79 in 1.5 to 2 seconds. That's why they chose that model for use in 'Nam: the high volume of fire that one man could put out with it.

Why every so complaining about barret and m79 what is wrong with them they kill u with 1 shot but u can shot into a sniper and he couldnt hit u unleas he has one hell of a luck and for the m79 u jsut run aaway and u shot from far

people have made so many topics complaining about the m79, that whenever someone makes a topic about FIXING it, people assume they're complaining.

i like this, but because of the amount of newbs saying 'huh? my bullet went right through you!', and the whiners screaming '****ING M79, THIS GAMES ****!', i don't want it.

Isn't one of soldat's big +'s that the physics are realistic? (ah I see, based on real physics)

You guys raise some good points, after thinking about it the idea wouldn't really be fair for barrett/M79 users, and newbs would try to vote kick people even more.
