You are correct in that I have had them, but only briefly. I have yet to see a real photograph on your background.

For the reason I stated above.  Why should I put eye-candy on my computer? I know attractive girls in real life.  (REAL real life, not the "real life" in the "this person has existed somewhere at some time" definition that you use.)  My point is, I put stuff on my desktop that I CAN'T just see anywhere.  At work, I use pictures of landscapes that I'm never going to see just from walking outside.  At home, I use pictures of characters with traits that feel rare in real life, or participating in scenes that don't just happen in real life (Exhibits A and B).  There's a method to this madness, and it's a little deeper than SOME people's qualification of "uhhhh she is HAWT".

Who says they need to be naked or even scantily clad for that matter? Stop seeing things in black and white. The correct shade of gray here is that a photograph, whether revealing or not, is infinitely better than the fake fantasy of cartoons. And don't you even try to tell me that having underage flat chested cartoon girls with big watery un-anatomical eyes is more more mature than real chicks.
