Microsoft take the absolute piss. It is absolutely ridiculous that we're all going to have Vista forced onto us at some point.

XP has virtually no problems at all. If you have a legitimate copy and service pack 2 then like me you probably have no problems what so ever.

Why the hell couldn't they have just repackaged the whole of XP with all its updates and add in some other fancy crap and then distribute that as a new OS, that I'd gladly pay money for. Vista is only going to bring problems.

I need to buy a new copy of XP just to keep around before it goes away. I plan on building a computer this summer, and I reallly don't want to get stuck with Vista. Aside from the whole "lol games ain't workin'" thing that is sure to happen (and has!), Vista costs too much for what it is. It's just XP with 3D interfaces, and a whole load of corporate bullshit.

Guys this is business, if linux was ever a company and sold their crap to you and put it in prebuilt systems then you would be complaining about the new linux being "forced" onto you.

@† Something I noticed last year when I was in Poland was that they sold computers with Linux. I don't know if they charged for the included OS but I found it very weird and amusing.

Most likely, they weren't charging for OS, unless it was something like RedHat.
system76 is an example of a manufacturer that sells their computers with linux. All of their computers only come with Ubuntu.

Not sure about that jrgp. Because in their adds (Tesco) they said that a computer had a processor with 8.4 Ghz but it was just a dual-core of 4.2 Ghz which they added??? So i don't trust any polish ppl not even myself :)

Thats stupid of them. If the processor is a dual core, you don't multiply the processor's frequency by two to get the overall frequency. Its both cores running at a speed of 4.2 alongside eachother.

I seem to be missing something. Can someone simplify the reason as to why I cannot continue using XP on my computer after 2007? Is Billy gonna jump through my roof and give it a damn good smashing?

what I'm saying is that linux (hopefully) will never be a company, so its pointless to say 'if linux was ever a company'.

Yes you can. You can keep using XP forever.

What this is saying is that Microsoft will not sell Windows XP to computer manufacturers anymore, so after a month, any windows computer you by will have Vista.

Unless you have a copy of XP around

They might just pull an Me, they could realise vista sucks and come out with a new operating system next year.

Ohh, right, ok thanks jrgp.

So then, with that in mind, why is everyone making such a fuss? If people are used to the simplicity and comfort of XP then they can continue using that version if they need to get a new computer right? I don't know much about your techno-wizardry and magic beepy machines, but I'm pretty sure you can just swap the OS to the new one.

So then people that are buying new computers and didn't have XP before won't have to worry because they'll be getting used to Vista the same as people had to get used to XP.

Yeah, so what's the problem? :D

Lets compare and contrast.

Just want to point out that the 512 RAM minimum requirement for vista is bullshit! You can't use the damn computer (I bought a laptop with vista basic and with 512RAM). But they sell computers that have 512RAM with vista. When you complain that the loading is unbearable and that it takes 5mins to wait for a letter to appear in MS Word when you type they say that you need too:

1. Remove some effects - Doesn't even make a noticeable difference in performance.
2. Get 512 more RAM - Then why the fuck did they sell a computer with 512RAM to beginn with if it needed more to function normally!

After that I got so mad that I went to the computer store and bought 512RAM...

As for my opinnion of Win XP. It's the best OS that's from MS. No BSOD that appear randomly and that you can't fix. It's stable and it doesn't require much from the computer to be smooth. I will stick to it for as long as I can.

Another reason I hate M$:

Before the endof the year, they are going to STOP SUPPORTING XP with patches and updates.
Allowing hackers galore into the endless holes left unexploited.

You know what we do when microsoft leaves massive flaws in their OS? We get an antivirus program, they will keep updating as long as the resource is there for them to gain from. XP is going to be fine, besides, we will still be downloading the "Genuine Microsoft product" nussiance, they won't completely abandon us.

They won't cut off support for XP until somewhere around 2011.

ROFL, I'm on Windows 2000, and they still haven't cut me off yet.
