No, I read that they are cutting all earlier os's off. I'll try to find a source.

And What About Windows XP Service Pack 3?And while I'm ranting a bit, let's dredge up Windows XP Service Pack 3, which was delayed from 2005 to 2006 to 2007 and now to 2008. If you were looking for any glimpse into the mind of Microsoft, this is it: The company has completely abandoned Windows XP, and it has absolutely no plans to ever ship an XP SP3. My guess is that Microsoft will do what it did with the final Windows 2000 Service Pack: Claim years later that it's no longer needed and just ship a final security patch roll-up. This is the worst kiss-off to any Microsoft product I've ever seen, and you'd think the company would show a little more respect to its best-selling OS of all time. But the reality is, Microsoft is looking ahead to new revenue and not behind to money that's already in the bank. And though hundreds of millions of people will be running XP for years to come, despite Microsoft's best efforts at selling them a later Windows version, the company has absolutely no plans to actually support those customers. This flies in the face of its publicly-stated life cycle support plans. And it really freaks me out. It should freak you out as well.

Linux isn't owned by anyone, and I doubt it ever will be. All this talk of "Linux being a company" is bull.

And I agree with Rambo, "M$" is about fucking stupid.

Again I have to state I said.. if it was a company this same crap would be going on... only thing changed would be the word Linux instead of Microsoft.

I seem to be missing something. Can someone simplify the reason as to why I cannot continue using XP on my computer after 2007? Is Billy gonna jump through my roof and give it a damn good smashing?

Yes you can. You can keep using XP forever.

What this is saying is that Microsoft will not sell Windows XP to computer manufacturers anymore, so after a month, any windows computer you by will have Vista.
Yeah but XP won't be supported anymore. So no more Windows updates and such. :(

Five bucks says the very last update for XP throws it back to first release version. Oh, the glorious bugs!

I don't ever download or install the updates anyway. They take forever and I never see any drastic improvement.

I wonder what they would do to the name... you know, like Micro$oft, only linsux or something.

That is just that person's opinion on microsoft, not an actual announcement from microsoft, it would be like me saying, "ubuntu will no longer be updated because microsoft bought the license for the program, resistance is futile"

Sorry for derailing the train-of-thought

Guys this is business, if linux was ever a company and sold their crap to you and put it in prebuilt systems then you would be complaining about the new linux being "forced" onto you.
That wouldn't work, Linux is open-source under the GPL. People can't charge you for Linux. Now, if it was BSD, then it would be valid.

How come I never hear anybody complaining about Mac OSs forcing them to upgrade? Are Mac users either much less present on this forum or not as whiny?

This is a videogame forum.

XP is a hellova lot better than Vista in every sense. XP runs well with 128mb ram, 800ghrtz processor, and the crappiest video card out there...I had XP running (slowly, but running in the least) on an 8 year old laptop. Vista....I have nothing good to say about vista....except it looks nice, but all that shiny stuff at the expense of System resources.....
Xp takes my vote anyday.
Just another soul to burn.

This video isn't all that great.  But read some of the comments.  If it's any representation of the general intelligence of community opposed to Microsoft...

Vista isn't that bad.  That's it.

EDIT: Firefox works fine.

I'm still using Win 98. When I'll buy a new comp, I'll buy it without Vista - operating systems should be as small, as efficient and as stable as it's possible and backward-compatibile. Operating system that requires 512 mb of ram and 800 mhz processor is an absurd.

Smart decision. And you're right.
