Team Weapons
« on: April 17, 2007, 09:39:02 am »
Ok, this is rather longwinded so bear with me   :D

Most modders (and mod players) will know that there are two sets Gostek Characters for two teams. Meaning that a modder could edit them to give a diferent appearance for each team.

(For example, the Warhammer 40,000 mod can feature Tau soliders against Imperial Guard using two different Gosteks)

What i would like to suggest is that the same be applied to Weapons and even SfX.
Doing this simple change would open the door to modding capabillities. We would then have players using weapons that are exclusive to their team. (Unless the opposition nicks it off you!)

To sum up, a simple and subtle re-arrangement of files would have a massive effect on the modding community!
Please post your thoughts on the idea.

The weapons-per-team option has already been posted, and the per team one is already possible...

But I still support. Just as SDFilm said, faction mods would work well. Who wants to see the Germans using an M1 Thompson? Not me. Plus, they didn't even have any .45 ACP weapons that I know of.

Think about this: Barrets/Rugers vs. Chainsaws and Knives! Snipers vs. Close Quarters!
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.

As a modder, i belive it would be a great idea because then i can improve my Warhamjmer 40,000 mod to accomodate a scenario to Imperial Guard (Using Imperial Weapons) against the Tau (Using Tau weapons)

Obviously if you killed somebody from the opposite team you could nick his gun. But appart from that all guns a exclusive to your teams.

Well, the way you suggested it, no way. Limiting certain weapons to a certian team would be annoying to say the least (for example, people stacking to get their favorite weapon, or even worse, having a weapon better suited for the map confined to a single team).

However, having different weapons.ini for the teams makes more sense and would actually be a good idea. About the appearance, well, having a team2 weapons-gfx file would rock.

He didn't say he wanted weapons limited per team, he said he wanted different weapons.inis and graphics per team, which is, uh, basically what you said.

Well, that's what I get for assuming that this thread was exactly the same as the 5 other times it's been suggested, and skipping the actual text.

*EDIT* Yeah, THIS is what I was saying was a b.s. idea:

It would be fun to play like : Barretts vs Rugers Ak vs steyr aug

For reasons stated in my first post.

And the added fact that it adds no real elements to Soldat, it's just another so called 'realistic' suggestion.

Well lol! im glad to see i have support!

However some of you have the wrong end of the stick lol! Im not suggesting scenarios where one team gets Aks and the other gets Steyr-augs.

If you look through the soldat gfx files you will notice that the Gostek graphics have 2 seperate files for both teams.
I want the same principle to be applied to weapon gfx and sfx. When playing soldat, this will have no difference, but to modders it would allow us to change the appearances, allowing team guns.

For example ww2 Germans against allies. Team alpha is modded to wear German Gosteks and German guns only.
While allies wear allied Gosteks and allied guns! Simple!

Ah yes that is a good point!

In doubling the weapon-gfx files, we would also have to have seperate sfx files.

Its a good point, but really, as time and technology goes in im sure my computer could handle some extra files. If not in the next update it should be at least considered for future updates.

It would be mainly a mod function, not vanilla version one. Mods like WWII TC have weapon sets for every nation. Vanilla Soldat doesn't and I doubt it'll ever have.

LOL!

Anyway, I'd love for this to be implemented.

However, I'd like it more if there were an option in the menu, where you could decide which team has which weapons. That'd make it a bit easier.

Military SEALs Mission: Team one, Navy SEAL gosteks, MP5's and knives. Team two, Terrorist gosteks,  AK-74's and no sidearms. The Terrorists must outnumber the SEALs, and the map has to be an invasion of a building, like Zombie House, and realistic is on. And INF.
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.

I suggested this a long time ago. I still stand behind it. MM wouldnt really have to do anything but code it in  to read a second folder, much like the Team2 folder... in fact, why not make it that? Weapons-gfx/team2 might work. :D and Weapons2.ini might work too.

It would be a good addition to the game.  Maybe red team would be the "terrorists" (which they usually are in infiltration), as them getting Ak-74's and such.  Then the blue team having Snipers, AUG's and such.  Swatlike weapons.

New weapons would be nice to be implemented for each team.  For example, blue team's sniper would fire 2X as fast, but not enough damage to kill in one shot.  Another example would be a stronger mp5, but with less ammo and a greater reload rate.

Things like this could be changed in game options, "team weapons mode"

To a normal soldat player it would not affect anything. But a modder can take the weapon gfx and change them as we change gostek gfx. one set of guns for one team. another set for the other.

I like the option idea, but the weapons you suggested already exist. One not in this game, of course.

The Ruger fires twice as fast (just without a scope) as the Barrett, but kills in two shots.

And you'd be switching out your 9mm standard MP5 for a .45 ACP one. More powerful round, but it takes up more space. Therefore ten rounds less of ammo.

You forgot about my mission idea....

Ah you see that 'would' complicate things.

All i want to do is to be able to modify Only one teams weapons-gfx and sfx. Not their capablilites.

In my eye (excuse the bad pun!) i want the guns gfx to be changed but in reality their are identical to their opponents.

awesome idea! I really think that this should be implemented! however I beilieve that the different teams weapons should have different stats, it'd also be cool if you could edit the health and maybye even speed and other stats of different teams, this would be cool as hell, especially for mods, like 40k tau could have low health but all their guns would be rather 1337, orks could be tough and semi fast , but al their guns are shit, also maybye if you could change the number of troops alowed on each team it'd be cool, that way one side could be like a small elite squad while the other is a swarming horde of cannon fodder.

This shouldn't be added as it may unbalance game-play.

Seperate weapon sets for each team, yes.  Seperate weapons.ini file, no.  Now, just imagine if you could have different weapon and character graphics for all four teams...

It has been suggested before.  Other players find that it is an unnecessary option.

Only someone who never made any mod can think that's unnecessary. It would give the moders abilities to make mods better then ever. I think that .ini file for each teams should be added too, without different .inis it has no sense. I think that lot of servers would use "old system" but some would work with mods (eg. fast shooting weapons makes small damage vs "heavy" slow shooting weapons makes big damage)

It has been suggested before.  Other players find that it is an unnecessary option.

What else is unnecessary would be gostecks, weapon skins and map scenery since soldat would be just as playable being a couple of sticks jumping around on boring polygons and shooting each other. The fact that we have all these eye candy is to make the gameplay more enjoyable and creative.

Completely for it =]

Also you can just have everything on default, so it wouldn't effect the 'other' players that dont like this option. Hence why this is beneficial for modders.

Different interface guns, weapon-gfx, sounds and weapons.ini is all we need.

Imagine all of the Halo and similiar game mods with all different weapons

To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

Also, doesn't only have to be for modded weapons.

There are 10 weapons, 5 for each team?
Since red team is always the "assault force" in INF

Red Team:
AK-74, Desert Eagles, Ruger, Minigun, M79
Blue Team:
AUG, Mp5, Barret(sp?), Minimi, Spas-12

Or, You could be able to choose which team gets which weapons?

Two lists, maybe red team would have all the weapons and blue team is stuck with snipers? :o

sorry, guys, but this is not good. if you step into a public server and get fucked up because the server-team weapons are weaker than the opponent's ones, you will be really pissed.
why not making a weapons.txt with the first 5 weapons being allies, and the last 5 axis? you can hint to this in the server welcome message, and if someone feels handled unfair, he can use the enemy weapons easily.
This is better, leave as is!!!

It is really annoying when you make a mod with two very different teams (ninjas vs pirates, modern vs ancient etc) and they are stuck using the same weapons as each other. Different GFX would be great, but I personally would like to see separate weapons.inis too, I mean they wouldn't be implemented in standard Soldat, but modders would be able to do a hell of a lot more. I don't think it would take much code at all to implement and the changed code would be very much like what is already in place for the gosteks. Modding soldat is easy and fun, but until this is implemented, a lot of mods will be inherently flawed.

Amen to that ;)

I F12 too, it would be up to the modder to balance the weapons. If they're not balanced enough, then one can ESC himself out of the server anytime ;)

@Kryp -- go buy some skills. use /command to bring up the commands.

you can have different weapoons for different teams in the sense of like alpha has alpha's own sniping weapon with for example 15 bullets, reloads a little faster than the barrett, but kills only in some specific area, like the head. bravo then can only use barett or pick up alpha's different sniping guns.

Well basicly to a default setting, you cant tell the difference. Alpha and Bravo play with the old style guns.

But a modder can open the weapon-gfx files to discover 2 folders. one for each team, both containing identical guns.

Therefore, you can edit the guns in each folder to make them appear exclusivley for each team.
