Colourblind friendly teams.
« on: April 17, 2007, 11:51:45 am »
Hey all (oh yeah first poster :P ).

I just finished playing a rare game of TDM Soldat. While it was alot of fun, I spent half the match shooting my own team mates because I couldn't distinguish the colours properly due to me being colourblind.

Is it possible to add an option to make team numbers hover over the head, or to be able to customize team skins to the max client-side? .

Thanks.

... he's colorblind.

My suggestion is to make one team's color black (preferably bravo team) along with their flag, since you'll be able to distinguish between lighter colors and darker colors.

Oh, GOD YES!!!

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SHARES IN MY SUFFERING!!!

I'm colorblind too. If Clanmatch is on, and the teams happen to be either dark red, green, light red, orange, or dark blue or purple....basically almost every color. Sure, I can tell the difference beween red and blue, but if they're any pair of similar colors mentioned above, I can't see them properly.

The arrow thing sounds good...
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.
All-around good with weapons that aren't long range, except in TW.
Now be careful out there, soldier.

Heh, I am colourblind too, but I have no problems with team colours. You should send a message to Michal and ask for something for us 'visually impaired' people ;)

Wow, a LOT of colorblind soldat players out there (not me though).

What you COULD do would be editing your goestek files to be, as an example, all white on red team and all black on bravo. That way it wont really matter what colors people pick 'cos they will always show up as white and black.

That's my solution. (note: this basicly means that you can indeed change team 'skins')

Wow holy **** I totally didn't post that.

EDIT: Plus the team skins are already "white," the game colors them red and blue, so changing bravo's to black is basically the only effective thing.

I wish I had the luxurey of being colour blind! I'm completely blind, and I need Soldat in braile format.

But seriously, I think this leads to a good idea. Like the player indicators ontop of teammates heads also.

Maybe something like in BF2 - player name above teammates player that shows when you're close to him/her.

After re-reading the posts, I just noticed...

He was playing TDM, meaning there were 4 teams, as in "LOLZ BRAVO AND DELTA LOOK DA SAEM" if we colored Bravo black.

So, arrows over teammate's heads sounds like one of the best ideas.

Aww cute he's color blind .. I reckon Numbers is a great alternative or white&black if it gets too confusing with the player numbers.

Good point. Shall we make a topic asking for arrows above teammate's heads? I'd support that. (And if people didn't like it they could turn it off just like the player indicator)

And Dolfo, that was MofoNofo's sad joke

Howbout a little symbol for waht team your on. so if your on red, you see a little *** (thats not a bad word, im really thinking stars) over their heads.

Arrows and numbers seem simple enough though.

I never really thought about the colorblind... i guess alot of games have that problem.

It wasn't a joke. I just felt like writing it in all caps with horrible grammar.

EDIT: Also, "Aww cute he's color blind"? I think you're the one making the "sad joke" here, buddy.

lol i just logged in to make this suggestion as i keep shooting random objects on the map and my own team mates, iv been kicked a few time for team killing on FF matches. being colour blind sucks when you play online.

i think a colour blind option would be a great idea, if you could click in the games options a colour blind section which would change your teams colours to what you can see best it wouldnt have to permently effect the game for other people it could just higlight your team for you.

lol it sucks also that im colour blind and i do graphic design

Oooh, that must be hard.

I think a team-mate indicator is the best solution. Then again, I'm not colorblind.
