First post on every thread.
« on: April 13, 2007, 09:39:47 am »
Just a thought that came to mind when I was reading a thread for some mod.
Some forums might benefit from having the thread starters post on top of all pages and then have the replies below?
I'm thinking about modding forums, map releases, etc.

Sometimes people make a comment to i.e a detail on a interface, then you have to go back to page one, check it out, and then go forth to the page you were on again.

I'm not saying this is a big deal or nothing :) Just a thought.

Im probably thinking of something different, but if you go to Profile then click "Look and Layout Preferences" and tick the box that says "Show most recent posts at the top." wont this achieve what your asking?

That simply reverses the order of the posts, showing the latest posts first and vice versa. ;o

That certainly sounds like a very good idea.

Hmm, the only negatives I can think of are if the topic starter has posted lots of things originally, like the thread Dairy made with all the guns. If it were to be implemented, they would have to be loaded on every page. That might not effect most users, but with some people still on dial up it could make a difference.

Still, it sounds like a spiffy idea and I think it would be generally beneficial.

While I understand your reasoning, I believe this functionality is best implemented using our exisiting "edit" button. Author replies to the thread are best read in chronological order, where the reader can get a better understanding of the flow of the conversation.

I cant say I understand how the Edit button is gonna help.
The flow would be the same, only the original post is beeing showed above it with i.e a thick line under it or some other kind of seperator.

The edit button is currently the de facto standard and works quite well. What about editing the original post do you not like?

I have a feeling you're completely misunderstanding what he is suggesting, go read the OP again

he is suggesting that the Thread starter's post appears first on every page of the thread

If the poster has anything to update they should update their first post and just post announcing the update on the (current) last page.

This is a great idea and I fully support it, if it is possible. The only drawback would be a revision of the product by its author on another post other than the original :P

Well, it could fetch the original post on every page view.

It should be an option for the poster, like with the poll, that kind of option.

I really don't see a point to this. I usually read all the posts before replying so I guess I just fail to see why this would help anything. If its done make it an option.
