List of OLD bugs -- contributions needed

This is a list of bugs that have been in Soldat for a while, i.e. prior to 1.4.  If anyone has other old bugs to add, or links to threads that detail one of these bugs, post them in this thread and I'll edit the list.

Miscellaneous Bugs
  • If you get a postmortem kill, like your slow-moving bullets killing someone after you die, kill console doesn't show the weapon (happens offline too)
  • Vote box pops up repeatedly even after the perpetrator has been kicked
  • In survival mode, counter for "X team players remaining" fails to decrement
  • Auto_Record timer doesn't reset at the start of each round
  • The first bullet of AUG bursts is lower than the rest
  • Crouchbug -- victim flies around the map with their legs tucked under them

Control Bugs
  • Using taunts while dead results in choosing a different weapon, even if weapon menu is disabled
  • If the last letter of a chat message is an action key like R or F, you'll perform that action when you send the message -- e.g., sending the message "whatever" makes you reload
  • If you throw weapon before the switch animation finishes, you throw the weapon you were switching away from -- well-known bug for knife users
  • Rolling or proning cancels a weapon switch

Lag/Network Bugs
  • When a thrown knife hits a Soldat, a second knife often appears and continues on the same trajectory as if it hadn't hit the Soldat.  This ends up with two knives appearing to lie on the ground, although only the first knife can be picked up.
  • Explosions knock players around without damage
  • Death delay -- players get hit, continue moving for a few seconds, then go limp and die without the "You killed X" or "Killed by X" messages
  • In Internet deathmatch, match fails to end when score limit is reached.  Sometimes match ends after a second player reaches the limit, but not always.
  • Lagging crates -- client fails to synchronize crate positions with server, i.e. you try to pick up a crate but it's actually a few feet away
  • Respawning in the same place after dying -- after dying, when the spawn time counts down, and finishes, nothing happens.  Then after a couple seconds of this delay, you will respawn in the exact same place you died.

Physics/Collision Bugs
  • After getting hit and dying, bodies will sometimes float slowly up in mid-air.
  • Explosions knock players inside polygons
  • Random, unpredictable bounces

I tested this a little... you don't have to switch weapon to make it happen, you can just "cancel" the /mercy by firing or whatever.  Thanks, added to the list.

This won't be fixed. I believe MM said this doesn't need to be fixed, plus it's funny.
Same for the crouch bug. Although it does seem to occur a bit more often.

crouching makes the minigun very inaccurate
This is normal and won't be fixed either. :)

Here's an old bug: when you hold the jet button when your fuel gauge is empty, you can glide. This bug appeared in 1.3.1 if I remember correctly. Also it seems to cause some lag when playing online.
Edit: This bug only happens while playing on a server and doesn't happen in single player mode.

That glide thing must only be for you; after the fuel guage empties holding it down will only prevent you from walking on the ground.

And, if you look at the thread right under this one the crouch bug has been produced repeatedably :D.

Okay, if MM has explicitly mentioned those already, I'll remove them.  Did he give a reason why the minigun is so terrible when crouching?

The crouch bug is very easy to get, ergo, very easy to get out of.

When you've got the crouch bug, simply press prone (soldat will prone, getting out of the crouch position and proning, therefore getting out of the actual bug) and then unprone, (to allow the soldat to walk around normally again).

Simple.

actually, the /mercy 'bug' wasn't a bug because MM decided to leave it in the game for tapurposes, like surprising your enemy with tons of blood.

I'm thankful that the most annoying bug in the game - the team change bug - was fixed in this version. I hope the mercy bug never gets fixed, because it is so much fun trying to kill your opponent with your own blood in vain ( I know, I have a wierd imagination). Even though Michal won't fix the crouch bug, I would still like to see it fixed.

With this new bug patch, soldat will become much better. Now we just need to worry about the netcode xD.

Heres a problem id like to see fixed:

My taunts for incoming are Alt + 1,2,3 and when Im dead and use an incoming taunt, because the weapons are asigned numbers in the weapon menu it gives me the corresponding number...

I tried disabling weapons menu but when i hit those buttons it still makes me spawn with the wrong guns.

dangerous bugs (from Coyote):
it is possible for a server to send any files to anyone connecting to it.  including nasty dll trojans, viruses, worms, etc.  they will get executed when soldat runs next.  this was proved by me recently, by sending a harmless dll that was a soldat hack to people on soldat as they connected to my test server.

it is possible to spy on pieces of packets from other players (including commands, /adminlog for example) by sending a malformed chat packet.  tested, and proof of concept'ed with chrisgbk - retrieved admin password from enesce's servers.

soldat server doesn't censor end of line characters in chat or player names.  using this, it was possible to take control of ARSSE and cause it to execute strange commands (kefear and i tested this and he fixed it don't worry), however, other admin clients with scripting capabilities will definitely be at risk.

Old and new bugs are dangerour all the same. i think we should merge this topic and mine and sticky it, since a lot of users are coming through the forums and repeating the same bugs over and over.

Very, very minor "bug":

I feel that the Auto_Record timer should reset at the start of each round. Back when I didn't know about changing the length of the timer, this little bug (I say it's a bug, don't know if you'd agree with me) successfully robbed me of a number of cool/funny moments, seeing as how I never knew when it was going to reset.

Granted, the restarting of the auto-record mid-game is easy to avoid by entering a big number for Record_Time in Soldat.ini, but I still feel it should be added.

Actually, It goes all the way up to 9 i believe, so... thats not guna work, we shouldn't have to work around bugs, bugs should be fixed.
