It's pretty obvious that people do care about their karma. Whether that affects their posts or not is hard to tell. Making an educated guess at select members placing karma related pictures and sentences in their signatures, I'd say if the situation was apparent then yes it probably does influence their posting in some way.

I couldn't care if it's wrong for me to stereotype, but I think it should be aware that someone who posts differently depending on their value of karma is probably not going to be posting anything intelligent or worthwhile anyway, so I shouldn't think it matters.

I would have said no, but that would be a lie, because negative karma makes me think "Jee, I'm never getting out of this mess... fuck it" and then I post stupid shit like this.

You are just 44 posts away from advancing to "veteran" rank, my boy.

Yes, Karma does affect how I post. If you want me to post stuff that contributes, I suggest you do the "same". And if you want me to spam, smite me. I'm going to misinterpret things and see how their evil little club fares when plans goes awry.

Yeah, because that's smart.

Actually, no wait, for once I'm actually going to help someone instead of just insulting them. Blue-ninja, that is not very logical because if you think the people that like to smite you care whether you spam or not, then you are mistaken. You would probably only just encourage them as it would see you at the shitty end of the stick through being banned, which is what they are aiming for by smiting you in the first place.

Just post as sensibly as you can most of the time and then it's not your fault or problem in the abuse of karma. If you care that much about a number that displays how many times any potential random person on the internet has clicked a certain button then I'm afraid I'm going to have to hit you with the horrifying and refreshing punching glove of 'life is shit sometimes, deal with it', because the only people that would have the power or motive to remove or change the karma system are the admins. And as you should know by now, that's not going to happen.

Taken out due to immaturity.

I believe that the forums is a means of blowing off steam after acting like a mature teenager all day.

I sometimes find it fun making my karma go uppppp to 5 and then dowwwwnnn to -5 and then upppp again. I do try to keep a good karma and that means posting well, so yes it does affect my postings.

I am very concerned of what people think of me, so I say yes, but not to the point of paranoia.

Yes it does. I honestly believe I would probably spam more and easily display myself as more immature if karma wasn't constantly breathing down my throat here.

EDIT Ha, ha: you label it as "you're afraid" :P

Karma doesn't effect my posting decisions in any way. Honestly, I hardly ever glance over to see what it is. I just don't care about it.

Every time you smite me, I win.

I don't care, because my Karma is high enough I have a cushion in case I get smited, and either way, it seems to me that I keep my posts mature and educated. Mostly.

Karma isn't exactly an accurate representation of people's worth. Just look at Rambo 6, he had double digits of positive karma and got banned for posting... Well, you know.

So basically there are a few good people with low karma and a helluva lot of people who deserve their triple digit negatives.

And yes, on occasion I will refrain from speaking my mind due to karma.

We need an official guide to having good karma. :D

Can anyone (admins included) keep track of who you smite and applaud???
Not possible. It's pretty impossible to track hundreds of smites and applauds, since they happen almost every hour.

People smite me almost daily.  I stopped caring ages ago.  Seriously, does it really matter?

On that note, I would like to know who I pissed off this time around.

It's also because you're too much like paramud. In fact, I bet you are paramud. Still haven't left?

I don't give a shit about karma. If people smite me, it's justified. If they applaud me they're probably out of their fucking mind but fine.

2) If my own intelligence and cynicsm are why I'm being smited, so be it.  And don't call me Wang Chung.

1) Who in the hell is paramud.

He was a member here who was so infamous for his stupid comments that making fun of him or tricking him into posting even more absurd comments was practically a forum pastime.

He's also the reason why you'll occasionally hear of people "pulling a paramud" (i.e., saying they're fed up with the forums, leaving, then coming back within the month).
