Buddy and Hitman List
« on: May 05, 2007, 11:45:37 am »
I think there should be a buddy list and a hitman list.

Buddy List:

-It should be able to keep track of the people you like to play with friends, this would also be really helpful for clans.

Hitman List:

-It should be all the people you want to take out or challenge.

Both:

-You should be able to send messages so they know where to go and stuff.

Actually, it isn't a bad idea.
If someone takes you down and seriously humiliates you, you will want revenge, but currently there is no way to mark someone as Rival/target/whatever.

Wouldn't it be better if you have a buddy list, and you can have another list called something else like, People I hate, or something like that?

Maybe it should just tell you if that person is in the same server as you.

And/or, have everyone's IP hooked up through the lobby server to their forum name here, and you could PM them that way. Please, please, no applause.

 ;D

I support, because guys like Sytrus and Obi-Wan Kenobi (cachiporrin here) are fun to play with.

But, like Napalmi said, Xfire does do that same job. But it only works if the person you message has it too.....oh well.
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.
All-around good with weapons that aren't long range, except in TW.
Now be careful out there, soldier.

That is a good idea, but rather, how about a player option that is as follows:

Soldat Forums Username:___________________
Password:____________________
[Login]

I'm not sure how forum login would be implemented; maybe if you are logged in, you see other SF members forum names in the score sheet.
Then, maybe a command, /pmuser [forumname] (Message) to send them a message through SF.

A buddy list would be flawed, as Soldat lacks unique, permanent IDs -- if anyone made even a small alteration to their name like changing their clan tag, the buddy list wouldn't recognize them.  Linking IPs with the forums user list would be a gigantic pain in the ass.

I don't much care for the hitman list idea.  Rivalries are childish.

How about my recent idea, where people log in with their forum nick?

So what are the chances of putting the buddy and hitman list into the next version.

It's a good idea, but I still don't see it happening.

edit: Here's an idea.  Registered users have unique IDs, don't they?  Maybe this could be a feature for registered users.  That wouldn't require the game to depend on outside programs or websites.

I find that a buddy list would come in handy, but xfire is good enough. I agree with F3nyx, if they do introduce it, it should only be a feature for registered users.

Hmm, the problem with F3nyx's idea is that currently there is no tracking of registered soldaten (so if me and a friend are both playing with my registered ID at my house it doesn't recognise that we have the same id) so it would be a pain to have to start that now.

It's a nice thought but soldat lacks the whole permanent id's thing as said before. Also, what are the chances of finding someone from the forums online in soldat? (Well, 0 for me because of me being in NZ :))
I am but a figment of your imagination. You are creating me to see what perfection is.

But the non registered or registered could have a username and password and that's how we'll keep track of who is our buddy and who is on the hitman list. Put there username in your buddy list and if they change there nickname then it should change automatically in the buddy list. Same for the hitman list.

That's the point.  A new username/password system would mean some pretty massive changes to Soldat.

Yes, but it would work with this suggestion, I think the creators could make it happen.
