In Game Chat
« on: July 01, 2006, 09:06:06 pm »
For the love of all that is holy I think Soldat needs in-game chat. I'm not talking like in-game while killing people chat. I'm talking, while looking for a server you and your buddies, or teamates, can find the same server without having to use a telephone. You can also keep in touch with people you have met in actual games. I just hate calling up my friend when trying to find a server and be like "hey i am at *&^%GMBHIUI*&^%$ server for me.....they are playing CTF hurry up and find it before it fills, and then have to wait in silence while he makes me respell the server over and over again. This addition to Soldat would make them a BAMF, if you will.

So, basically, to sum it all up - You want to be able to chat while looking for servers in the lobby.

Well, a majority of us use X-Fire for this sort of thing.

If you haven't heard about it, click here.

Well even though some of us do use Xfire, or some other kind of communication, a buddy list would be nice. Because for some people, they don't want to download more crap to their computer.

Thank you very much Nick for this userbar!! <3

i have xfire as well, and i dont usually have problems with soldat when they're both running
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

I'd imagine Soldat's lack of a registry database on some centralized server would kill this idea.

In deed, you got Xfire which is really good to seek one person on a server.

I mean i have X-fire but when my buddy isnt on then no one is on and its sortof hard in game to be like 'hey buddy can i get your xfire that would be wonderful' and plus they could make it where only the people that register get use of the chat program... shiiiiiii id pay 9 bucks for all of that then....but not for an mp3 player

it would be cool to have an ingame friends system. But like its been said, soldat is a simple game, and its simplicity will stay.  plus xfire rocks

well duh why do you think it says turn off everything in the background while playing soldat ::) thats why you should find server then go to it then shut off x fire other wise the lobby wont respond this would porbably happen to some poeple that have a weak computer.

How would a chat system make it un-simple if thats a word. All im saying is if they add a chat system theyve got my 9 bucks. it would actually make the game more simple and more fun and more friendly...they need to consider this

I strongly support this.  Especially the buddy list thing would be great for clans.  You can see what servers your buddies are in, and if it isn't full join right in.

People don't pay 9 dollars a month, they pay a one-off fee of 9 dollars. Additionally, Michal Marcinkowski does not program Soldat for a living, it's a time consuming activity he does alongside studying at university. In future, bear this in mind before claiming something should be implemented whether it's 'easy or not'. ;)

Dascoo, thank you for standing up for the fact that Michal is only one guy, but try and be less aggressive. You could present your argument in a much friendlier way, opposed to virtually trolling as you just did.

Including a lobby chat system would be nice indeed. Never thought about that but I think it might be usefull actually. Some kind of IRC as another tab next to "Quit" tab for instance.
That way people from all around the world looking for a game together would meet in one place... This would require some operators and stuffs... That's if Michal M. decides to get himself an IRC server which I doubt he'll do. :P
Therefore, no.

Good idea but impossible to set up technically. Unless you get some kind of friend-list as Jessica mentioned (could involve static IPs as well, why not...) . Ask M.M. personally he'll tell ya. :) guess his answer first hehe
