About physics
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:04:54 am »
I just started to think about ways to prevent spraying, and then started to wonder why minigun, and especially Spas-12 provide the knockback-effect.

Every action has an opposite action. If you shoot with shotgun, it knocks you back as much as it would knock the one it is being shot at.

This means, that e.g. Mp5 slows enemies down alot, the amount it slows/boosts, should be the same for the shooter. At least this would be logical if we stick to real-life physics.

This could be some kind of a preventation for spraying aswell. This could be about 1/4(25%) or 1/8(12.5%) of what it would be for the one which is shot. Like, if I shoot someoen with 10 bullets, he gets the speed of 10, I would get only 2.5 or 1.25.

Also, setting a limit of how much one could gain speed with this, could prevent people from using weapons for "surfing".

Well, the whole idea feels a bit doomed already, after I think about it more deeply, but I give it a try and press the "Post"-button now, and let YOU to judge it.

(and no, I know Soldat is not meant to have 100% real physics. -_-)

Sounds like it would make an good realistic-realistic mode. xD

I support-ish.

I kinda like this idea.
Everything that destroys spraying sucks.
It won't destroy spraying... not entirely, just the movement while spraying.

OBEY!!!

Would not slow the gameplay really, only in situations where you have to run and shoot at the same time.

Sytrus, you can still play TW even if this was applied into Soldat. :O

But you'd have a hard time not shooting yourself back into the barbed wire while spraying.

This is a bit too much. Actual recoil can't knock a person back (unless it were the minigun, because it wasn't designed for one person) on any of the weapons in Soldat.

It's TOO realistic. It's so realistic, that it's unrealistic.

It would also slow down the gameplay. You have to ALWAYS shoot while moving in Deathmatch, Teammatch, Hold the Flag, etc...
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.
All-around good with weapons that aren't long range, except in TW.
Now be careful out there, soldier.

According to Newton's third law, you would get pushed back with the amount of force that the bullet is being pushed forward with not the amount that the bullets impart to something else.
The death of one man is a tragedy.  The death of a thousand is a statistic.

Omg..

I hate how people say that "omg spraying ish so nooblike".  It's called COVER.  It's called SNIPERS.  One person deploys a tactic that is good, and it is OFFICIALLY "nooblike"

Don't like it? Don't play Ctf or inf.  Play deathmatch, poeple don't spray in deathmatch (99.9% of the time) >_>

Snipers don't spray, they use the sniper rifle which can't spray. Don't be silly.
And cover also isn't spray. Look it up on the soldat wiki.

But, I don't agree. This would help surfing even with a cap. Also, I don't want to slow down when I rush someone with my AK blazing.
I am but a figment of your imagination. You are creating me to see what perfection is.

Yes they can, and sometimes (TW) it can be very effective.

About this...
In the instance of the mp5, there is pushback, its just in a different form: selfbink. Think, an mp5 in real life doesn't have very much recoil, it has enough to bounce it around a bit, but a good shooter will be able to hold it fairly steady without being bounced back. However the bullets hitting a person would be more than enough to stop him (or even push back a person if a few hit quickly), which is exactly what happens.

According to Newton's third law, you would get pushed back with the amount of force that the bullet is being pushed forward with not the amount that the bullets impart to something else.
And that force is applied as kinetic energy to where it is hit. Some of the enery will be drained due to the air resistance.

Even though I like the idea, this wouldn't stop spraying. I hover spray already, or start backing up from the enemy to keep him away; us sprayers only move in after the enemy lays dead. Thus, this would be more of a weakening to those who use autos regulary, on close combat.

Yeah, good thing that doesn't happen very often Ô_o

I don't think there's any need for this. Allthough it's a very 'complete' idea, and I admire the way you present it, but it simply would be too troublesome. Also, I like how one can sometimes gain a lot of speed and just blitz through the enemy line and shoot'em up, taking them by suprise. Your idea would put a stop to that..

I do not support.

Ofcourse not, but we also don't want nuclear weapons, spaceships and teleporters, yeah? We gotta draw a limit somewhere and stick to what is at least a tiny bit realistic..

F11 shooting a gun shouldnt slow you down when running at someone. If this happened to all weapons it would make weapons like the mini and spaz far less useful. Would it be based on the speed on the bullets fired/damage/number...?

Absolutely not.

Can you imagine how utterly useless shooting in the air will become?

Not to mention the obvious use for boosting.
