TW Hollowpoint
« on: May 23, 2007, 02:52:24 pm »
Here's my first trenchwar map.
It may not have super-awesome shading 'n stuff, but it's really large, it has many tactically important spots and it's recommended for 8 - 20 players.

Pix

(I used sceneries from VirtualTT, RiR and some out of the MegaMapPack, so I don't really know which little graphic belongs to which author.
I didn't make the sceneries except for maybe 2 or 3 files.
I hope it's ok  ;))
The texture is a pic from the internet texturized by me.

Clix:

File with Scenery etc (updated, edges, folder structure) :

hmmm.... lets see what we got here...
1. SML - proper map hosting. If you are using forum attachments only forum members can download them.
2. Archive should have proper folder structure, and names of folders should be correct (Scenery-gfx , not  Scenery). I recommend to use MPA in order to pack your maps.
3. Texture edge is missing.
[edit]
ehm... after playtesting this map totaly disapointed me...
I'm not gonna type a long list of map's defects like i usually do, i just say that it is missing very basics of mapmaking... Next time at least take a look at how things are done in other maps and take into consideration tw map layout peculiarities...

Gimme a break,
I used Polyworks and I made several maps before.
I concentrated on fixing polybugs from the beginning, so please post them here.
€: Fixed 2 obvious ones (start houses and the bush behind the ruins)

Very basic. I would say it needs more cover like bunkers or trenches.

I could see myself becoming a victim of sniper fire or sprayers

OK the Edges look like CRAP, I removed them for now.
I fixed some more polybugs.

And yeah, the map looks VERY even and trenches don't look very deep, but on the large screenshot(link) one Soldat would be approx. 2x1 pixels, so please consider downloading the map and atleat try it, the screen could give a wrong first impression :)

Yeap, agree with it...It must have more houses and trenches [not only 2] and also you must shade the map better i think! Maybe you also could add some clouds and a sun at the top...That would make the map much more realistic! scenery on the ground could be more, too i think!
So if you wanna have a really nice map you should change this things!

I already added some more trees and a light fog on the ground :)

Add lots of trenches and you will be all set. On a relatively flat map like this trenches would really own.

I say, cut him some slack. It's his first map, you can't really be disappointed by that.

It's called constructive critism -_-

When it's your first map, critism can be most important in how you continue with developing your maps.

It helps if you don't take it personal. Just live with it.

first im not an expeirenced map maker but one thing that bugs me is improper shading with sund like shade under a platform....in other words like real life.....since there isnt any sorce of light shade the ground floor darker to reflect that feeling that it has...
