Keyboard setup
« on: August 12, 2006, 04:23:16 pm »
My Keyboard setup is currently:

Up/Down/Left/Right : Arrow Keys
Crouch: PageDown
Fire: Left Click
Grenade: Right Click
Reload: Middle Click

Booster: Right Control
Change wep: Num1
Drop: Num0

Enter: Chat
': Team Chat

This seems to work pretty good for me. I just dont like using WASD keys to move around. Any thoughts?

As long as you're fine with them, all is well.

The whole page down for crouch seems like it'd be a bit unconfterable.  And I'm guessing down arrow is probably prone.  From the looks of it, everything seems to be a bit more spread out.  I'd suggest moving to the number keypad if you can, if you dont' like the wasd stuff.  It'd make everything a lot easier, and you'd have much better reaction time.

for future reference, please take note of the Search page

There are two topics that I found easily using the search function, both discussing keyboard configuration.

I'm not locking this since you're asking for specific feedback on your configuration, but rather I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the search tool.

My brother is left handed but seems to do just fine with the regular stock controls.

Well I use this:
movement:arrow keys
Grenade:numpad 0
Prone:numpad 1
reload:numpad 4
fire&jets :default
change weapons : scroll wheel

This works in many fps games too(just with ctrl , shift and that right click menu thingy for crouch , sprint or Iron sights on keypad 0 and grenades with delete)

I use all default keys except:

Spacebar - throw button. Really, it's quite handy. I can keep moving while I throw my knife, unlike if F was my default throw button.

C - chat. Self-explanatory. C is the beginning of chat. :P

V - Team chat. Eh. It's right next to C, so it works well.

I don't use WSAD, neither the arrow keys. I'm stuck to something I've had since Quake - YHGJ (up, down, left, right), K for crouch, L for weapon change, R for reload, F for nade throw. I'm left-handed, with the right hand on the keys and the left on the mouse. This pretty much puts my hand in the middle of the keyboard, which allows me to access a variety of taunts (the most important ones are either dubbed under YHGJ or near those keys), plus it goes all the way back to Quake, with my middle finger in easy reach of the 6 key (= rocket launcher back then).

This has always been a problem for me when I'd play on someone else's computer, with re-mapping the keys always an inevitable part of the process.  :D

Mostly defaults for me, other than the prone key being "C" instead of "X."

All the defaults for me too -> I was going to change The drop weapon from F to G (I do that in the other games) but It's alot harder to throw knives at people so I broke my habit (JUST for Soldat) :)
