Server connection problem
« on: June 02, 2007, 11:25:28 am »
Information:
Hello, I downloaded the soldat dedicated server 2.6.0 from soldat.pl so I could get a server up for my friends and I to play. I get everything setup, I change the default port to 99 and add a join password. I am not running any router, i do have a firewall though. The name of my firewall is BlackIce PC protection and my provider is Embarq (previously Sprint). I have DSL (ASDL modem)
My setup is this if someone doesn't understand:

|PC |====>|modem|====>|Internet|

Problem:
When I get the server up I find my external IP from whatismyip.com and get someone to try and join to no avail. I have it registering in the lobby, when I goto find it my ping shows as 9999.

Help well greatly be appreciated.

P.S. I failed *ALL* the tests for the port checking thing by esence

You should check http://server1.enesce.com/ptest.php and see what results you get. Then foward/clear/whatever the ports in your modem/router/firewall. Also, I suggest you pick a port above 1024.

ok, I set the port back to 23073, allowed the ports through my firewall and still *FAILED* the port checker. Ideas?

Does your modem have a built in router? If it does, you will need to setup port forwarding.

No I don't have one that I know of. Here are some links to my modem setting screens:

I'm not sure if I have to put in the ports on that first screenshot or not. Any insights?

Yes, your mdoem has a router builtiin (Easiest way to tell: if you can connect multiple computers to it, it does).

As FLAB mentioned, you will need to setup port forwarding; this will also entail setting up your hosting computer with a static LAN IP so that you don't have to change the forwarding every time the LAN IP changes.

Ok I got the port forwarding setup here is a pic to see:

Now I read about setting up a LAN IP address. Would I have to fiddle with something like in this image:

You need to forward to your LAN IP, not your WAN IP.

Yes, that is exactly it; you need to lookup the settings needed and enter them all manually.
