playing demos through ddplayer
« on: May 06, 2007, 06:27:44 pm »
i know how to play demos ( i did it for 1.3.1 a lot ) when i demoed a few in 1.4 folder i installed ddplayer and tried to play the demos i just made.  Every so often a pop up comes up saying "access violation at address 00000000.  Read of address at 00000000" whats going on here?

also at the top it says "respawn time 380.3 seconds" OMG

I get the same constant error when viewing any 1.4 demo. You probably already realised, but it's nothing to do with DDplayer. Either it's some form of conflict with your Soldat settings (I tried changing lots of things, so that's unlikely), or MM screwed something up with the demos/playback. =/

i hope that it gets fixed, that way we can all view our demos without popups interrupting the playback

I don't think it's necessarily fair to blame 1.4.  Diamond Demo player is the 3rd party software in this case, it's been around for a while, and maybe needs an update for 1.4.  Keep in mind that the demos are engine-driven, and with the changes in 1.4 there is maybe an occasional new calculation (related to what, I don't know) that 1.4 is spitting out that DDP just can't handle.  I think that's a more likely situation.

Some things people (might) try would be to see if 1.4 demos can be viewed from a 1.3.1 installation demos folder, or vice versa, and see if the problem continues to happen.

Main question, though, is whether this is a universal problem or only affecting some of us?  I wonder if anyone might drop into this thread and let us know that it does NOT happen for them.  If so, maybe we could interrogate them about their settings and PC config... ;)

Meanwhile, I just keep watching my demos with one finger poised over the esc button.  Yeah it's annoying, but I'm not a super-heavy demo user.

Any older demos than 1.4 are not compatible and will cause errors.

Oh, did I not mention I don't use DDPlayer? Even if you start Soldat, type in the demo name and 0 port, it still comes up with the errors during playback.

a. the issue has been recognized, and Im hopeful MM will find a solution soon.

b. it is indeed a soldat problem, nothing to do with the demo player being used.

c. we are of course aware that this concerns 1.4 demos being used with 1.4 soldat, so no blame on a version conflict for this bug.
