Pac-Man
« on: June 04, 2007, 08:50:04 pm »
Jacks_Depression had come up with the original idea to create a map based on the Pac-Man maze design with his Jacks_Pac-Man Style map. I had tweaked that map to fix some things which I thought were bad for gameplay, such as allowing people to go outside the maze. I had always wanted to really enhance how it looked though but never got around to it. This map is essentially the same as the ctf_jackspacman tweak I had made but far better and authentic looking. Map supports all game modes but works best with HTF, DM, and TM. I tried waypointing it again before releasing, but I could never get the bots to spread throughout the map no matter how many branches I put it.

Did you screenshot this and just use transparent polys? :-\

If not, cool map. Looks a lot like you did though.

If so, I think you were rather lazy. That Jacks_pacman style map was pretty decent for what it was.

I have nothing against finding pictures and using invisible polygons (like using windows defult pics ;)) but taking a screenshot of a game, then just putting polys into it, it's lazyness, also considering that someone already made a pac-man map without doing so. You could do the same at the very least while still striving for authenticity.

[edit]

Sorry about this post. Got carried away :-\.

That's a lot of negative criticism for someone who hasn't even bothered to check and see if what he's railing against exists here or not. I'd think someone would at least notice the polygon count and realize it has to be more than just some background image with a transparent polygon barrier. The scenery graphics are the ghosts, Pac-Man, dots, high score data, cherry, and extra life stock. The maze itself is just a pixel-by-pixel recreation of the arcade maze using polygons. I used a blank white texture I created as well to avoid having the game apply a texture to the map since the "untexture" feature didn't seem to be working for me at the time.

//off topic// Ah *growl*. You know what your doin? Pushin all the more recently released maps to the second page. What crap. Now some people might not get the comments they deserve for their more recent work. //off topic//

Just so that this wasn't a complete waste of time, this was and is a nice map. The pacman design is pretty awesome and authentic looking.
