Crane Fly- My nightmare insect while i was a kid
« on: June 05, 2007, 05:48:08 pm »
ok ive seen crane fly posted on a topic, so i decieded post about it. Ok, crane flys, basicly scared the CRAP out of me when i was kid, they simply creeped me out, they were huge and with super long legs and had a badass look, i even cried and runned one time when a  crane fly was on my kitchen and start fyling around my head and them face. Crane flys may look creepy cause them look like giant super mosquitos and we all know how annoying those are. The crane fly doesnt bite or eats, only lives to make love with female ones.

The main reasons has i sayed to them scare the crap ou of you:
*they are HUGE comparing to normal mosquitos
*they have long creppy legs, so thats why they are called sometimes daddy long legs
*they fly very slow and low, ok, next to your face or near you

Reasons to relax:
*They dont bite, they even dont eat
*They are super fragil

Again, the main reason people got scared is because of their seize. Im not afraid now of them, but i bet, if one night i wake up, and see one of them next to my bed, i jumped out of bed

a daddy long legs is not even close to that, a daddy long leg is a spider.

crane flies do however have really cool looking green blood.

It can refer to the crane flies.  And the bug we used to call daddy long legs isn't on the wikipedia page :(

The picture of the harvestman doesn't look like the ones I normally see but I guess thats the one based on other pictures I found.

I remember when loads of them used to cling onto walls at my juniour and high schools. They don't seem to come to my collage though, mayb they only pray on children.

When I saw them as a kid, they annoyed the crap out of me. They keep flying past my reading lamp, completely messing up my reading time.

Fortunately, their legs and wings are really easy to tear off.

I could tell the difference between a mosquito and a crane fly when I was six years old.

I woke up with one on my face one night. Not fun. Traumatised.
We call them "Mosquito Hawks" round here, people say they eat mosquitoes.

isn't there a rather stunning statistic on how many spiders are sucked into your nostrils during sleep?

edit: i remember it because it made me quit picking my nose

those are daddy long legs spiders. Crane flys are also sometimes called that to, despite calling it to those spiders being more apropriate

Yep cookie, nothing is worse than house centipedes.  Anyone who knows me knows my hate for them!  They are the reason I get dressed and cover every inch my skin when I go on my treks downstairs, if only for a minute.
