Packets problems?
« on: June 05, 2007, 10:56:44 am »
My download speed is around 800 Kbps. What is worse, my upload is just around 10 kbps. I think this incredible low upload speed is the reason for my problem. And the problem is, that I lag whenever I get in a combat with anyone. Dodging becomes impossible, same does aiming.
Well, as I said I think it´s some packet problem, I´m loosing packets or something (ok, honestly I have no idea what packets are, I suppose it´s some kind of packet with information sent to the server...). But I´ve read forums and I think some settings in soldat.ini could fix it...at least I hope so, otherwise will soldat stay unplayable for me.
Should I change some of these settings:

MaxConnections=8
TooMuch_Packets_LAN=62
TooMuch_Packets_Internet=33
Flooding_Packets_LAN=80
Flooding_Packets_Internet=37

Thanks for your help....

Assuming you meant your upload is 10 kilobytes per second, that is 10,000 bytes per second.  Soldat clients almost never upload more than 150 bytes per second.

This is not the source of your problem.

Those settings are all for the server, not client.  They have no effect on the client.

I always wanted to know how much do soldat clients upload. 150 bytes per second is very user-friendly amount, I expected more... Well, can I find client settings anywhere?

There aren't any client settings.

When you move, it might spike up to 300-400bytes, but that's still well within acceptable limits. (under 0.5K, even dialup can cope)

So there is no way how to fix this? I can accept being killed 2 seconds after fight or stop playing soldat, right? :)

Theres nothing you can change; try playing on only low ping servers, and check your internet connection, because it really sounds like your connection is dropping packets.

I play only on those with < 100 ping.
Hm, I use TCPoptimizer...any idea what I could change here?

To be more specific, my ping jumps up to value around 800 for a second or so when I approach to combat with somebody...until then ping is fine (less than 60).
I would appreciate at least some link to a page which can help me fixing packet losing. Google it seems impossible, because packet losing is mainly....lost of the package.

You can't do anything about packet loss except contact your ISP.  Packet loss is caused by problems with their equipment, not your computer
