Server help, Ping = 9999? HELP please!
« on: June 11, 2007, 05:10:32 pm »
Hello everyone, I am trying to create a server and I have one created and it shows up in the lobby but with a  ping of 9999 and no one can join. It does NOT contain a password (I guess it really shouldn't matter...) and I "thought" I had the ports forwarded correctly. (NOTE: I tried putting 'both' for the 23073 but had same results). I do not have zone alarm (I did but I uninstalled and tried). I only have AVG antivirus. You can pretty much see all my information in the picture below. I have tried disabling windows firewall too. Please help, I have read the stick at the top. Step format would be helpful, but I could probally figure it out however you put it.
Please contact either here, or yahoo IM (User ID: vthokie4me), or by e-mail (vthokie4me@yahoo.com)(NOTE: Spam e-mails will be deleted, blocked, and reported).
Please help because I am lost now.  ???
THANKS EVERYONE!

Everything looks to be setup correctly, so that only leaves other software firewalls blocking connections, ie: AVG.

Well just uninstalled all my anti-virus software and turned Win. Firewall off, still failed all tests. One question, on the server port tester do you put your Computers IP or the one to access router or the one that it connected to in the Solodat Server CMD, AKA Game server added to lobby server @ xx.xxx.xxx.xxx (I've tried a ton but still no luck, just wondering which one I should be trying.)

EDIT:

Also on the Soldat Server CMD it shows Server PID: 2656, is this anything I need to use?

what IP does your router say it has from the outside?  It is possible that your modem has its own firewall and/or does its own NAT

edit: since it is a linksys, I can tell you that it will be shown on the "status" page.

congrats on creating the most useful "help me find what is wrong" thread I've seen to date, you included all of the information you're supposed to.

Your modem is doing it's own NAT/has it's own firewall; easy to tell because your router IP is a LAN address. You'll need to configure your modem to forward appropriately.

How do I do that? Is there something I can read on how to? Little lost there. :/

Your network is set up as follows:

[Modem w/ NAT]--[Router]--[You]

Where your modem has the IP 192.168.1.1, and your router has the IP 192.168.1.2; you would have logged into 192.168.1.2 already to setup your router, you'll need to do the same with your modem at 192.168.1.1. For that, you'll need to find the manual.

The other possibility, is that your network is setup like this:

[Modem]--[Router]--[Router]--[You]

Where your modem has no actual NAT ability, but you have multiple routers. But you do the same thing as above regardless.

As for the actual setup, I don't have enough experience with more complex setups like this, so I'll have to wait for FLAB to confirm, but I believe you would do either one of the following, depending on how your network is setup:

1) Set your modem to forward directly to you,
or
2) Set your modem to forward to your router,

depending on if your router is set to gateway or router mode under Setup->Advanced Routing.

In the setup you have, you need to log in to your modem and do one of two things.  The first one is better:

1) set up  192.168.1.2 as a DMZ.  This is essentially the same thing as forwarding all ports to 192.168.1.2.  This gives your router pretty much direct access to the outside world
2) forward ports 1-65535 to  192.168.1.2 for both TCP and UDP

You should be able to just access your modem with http://192.168.1.1

Maybe your modem also has an option to turn off routing/NAT so that your router starts getting real IPs.

Chris, number (1) of your suggestions is probably not the case.  Any sane router will not allow traffic in from the WAN destined for one of its local IPs, because that doesn't jive with NAT. It would be better to go with (2) which is what I'm suggesting (but in more detail)

Ok:
1. Server port testing, I am using my computer's IP
2. In the video, it doesn't show but after the video was made I went back and forwarded the ports in my modem
3. I tried to put the NAT as none but that messed up my configuration so I had to switch it back to the default (in video) for  modem
4. I attached a link of a video of all the settings for my modem (first half of video) and my router (second half of video)
5. Here is links with detailed information about my modem  (ZyXEL  645-A1 from Sprint)
- ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/P-645M-A1/user_guide/P-645M-A1_3.40.pdf
- - - http://zyxel.com/web/support_download_result.php
- http://www.embarq.com/Support/Residential/Internet/UserGuides
6. I use 192.168.1.1 to access my modem and 192.168.128.1 to access my router because if I set it to 192.168.1.1 it conflicts with the modem.
7. Just wanted to say thanks to all that are helping me, just want to get it running  ;).I hope this information can be useful because I am not highly familiar with networking. If any more information is needed  just let me know or e-mail me at vthokie4me@yahoo.com or IM me, yahoo messenger ID = vthokie4me
8. Video Link (Note: might take a minute or two, it is 32mb video)

Edit:
My setup is:

Modem ---> Router ---> PC (Ethernet/Wireless)

Ok I have changed some stuff, still get all tests failed and now I keep getting: registering server..... Lobby server is offline. I guess this might not be a problem with my server but the lobby but anyways here is what I have changed:

I now have a static IP address, 192.168.128.20 and I am forwarding the ports to that.
My port forward now looks like this:

Port Range
Application    Start    End            Protocol    IP Address     Enable
Soldat1       23073 to 23073      both    192.168.128.20    X
Soldat2       23083 to 23083      TCP      192.168.128.20    X
Soldat3       23196 to 23196      UDP   192.168.128.20           X

I now have the following checked/unchecked in my routers security->firewall
X = checked

    Block Anonymous Internet Requests
X   Filter Multicast
    Filter Internet NAT Redirection
X   Filter IDENT(Port 113)

On my router, DMZ is enabled to 192.168.128.2

Your modem should be set to DMZ to your router; as it is, having your router set to DMZ won't help you, since your modem is blocking everything in the first place.

I can't find the DMZ for my modem. I found the port forward thing for my modem and I forwarded on there.

yeah, you can always forward the ports you want from your modem to your router, then again from your router to your desktop.

Good job thinking to switch what subnets each used, I was going to suggest that.

Try checking what connections are up running on your computer while your servers are up.
Check and see if anything else is using that port.

I'm having the same problem, but you see, it just started today.  Is it my new firewall?  It's not blocking all the rooms, but it is blocking the ONE friend that I play with.
