Nice. You will be a great mapper, you have the sense of detail.

@Kryp -- go buy some skills. use /command to bring up the commands.

An update.. putting some junk in the ocean lol!

I have no idea what it all is but its only in photoshop at the moment...

anyway... here's an idea of what it is... its a massive Freight ship and its not even 1/10th done :/

The water line will not wave around as this engine doesn't support animation for scenery as far as im aware...  Once the initial design has been done I will put in place all the final touches such as what you have suggested... And I already have a good feel for what looks right and what doesn't :P

The suggestions I need are more for ideas and maybe good way's i could implement cool battle areas.

Don't Worry there is more detail to come on the ship and much of the level... there is way more to this than just the ship and freight yard... it goes all the way along to a construction yard and also some residential areas... much of this is already half in place and needs finishing touches etc... going to be a long compile time... should be done over the next week or so ... I have to work from home and im getting distracted lol

Anyway, a slight update to the ship... just to give you an idea of how things are progressing.

What's cool in 2D effects? 3D is more cooler and there's water in many maps so nothing special.

(BTW - First map i've ever done for a 2D game I usually do web graphics and such fourth)

3D i can do, i find it BORING though, that's why i'm making this .. I love photoshop and enjoy using it a lot...

There are a lot of ways I could do the water... But I really have to finish what is going in the water completely before I re-render it again. The anchor is not there... Dirty crap from the freight ship isn't there... the water is only distorting what is currently in the water so if i place new stuff the refraction effects wont look right.. anyway.. give ideas and hits and critisism plz

The graphics look great, but are you going to turn this into a map? If you are you should consider the layout for the map. It would be a waste of good graphics if you don't make a good layout for good gameplay :P

ahaha, Yeah that's a good comment, and Yes.. i've done map design in the Past.. Not for Soldat but for 3D games.. I know about "Conflict points" ......... "Stress hold area's" and good "Retreat zones" and such fourth....

and of course i'm going to turn this into a map... I don't know how yet LOL but I will... I'm very.. SMRT!

I might have to talk to the soldat creators to redo the engine for this map HAHAHA... Its friggin massive...

I think its something stupid like 12000pixelsx2400pixels

thats 10 times bigger than your screen running the game at full res :|

Oh, To give you an idea... This about HALF of the map .. The is way more to the left but I had to cut it in half because photoshop isn't handling all the layer styles very well at all when I move things around.

3D doesn't have the same artistic effect that 2D has.. Both are Superior in different ways and it's a case of opinion and a case of Genre. This is soldat... 3D I find ruins the whole aspect of what this game is based on. If I was wanting to make 3D graphics I would be making maps and textures for half life 2 or Crysis.

Anyway, i'm not and because of the amount of improvement there is available to this game I thought I might aswell hope into a niche that hasn't been fully expanded. There is still much work to do and I didn't think I would even be putting a ship in... but i like to expand on things and who knows what else there could me in this map.

You can't just make an entire map starting off in Photoshop; there's more to it than that. There's a distinct difference between mapping and graphic editing... it'll be a pain in the arse to run this in-game if you'll just export the entire thing as a huge scenery. Usually you want to make the actual map design in the map editor and then start packing in sceneries.

rofl something like that... time consuming but im enjoying what im doing...

If someone can help me with that LOL that's the bit i need help with I downloaded polyworks but i only had a 20 second fiddle dropped my image in a a piece scenery seemed to render ok

I was thinking about just saving the whole image as 1 piece of scenery that u sit ur character in front of and set block points...

this however doesn't seem plausible... HOW should I do it lol!

I would say, take a white box (those you have all over the place in the background), make sure it's white, make it into a scenery and then you may color it in Polyworks. Now you have maybe 7 sceneries of 1.

I would split up the ship and the water into several sceneries in like a grid format and make "loops", if the water repeats itself somewhere then just make that part into 1 scenery and repeat that scenery in the map as much as needed. I would divide up the front and back of the ship into grid-sceneries and make the middle part of the boat like with the water. I will make a picture to explain this further.

Also, if you have like 2 sceneries that look alike/are the same, then simply delete the other. I think that some computers can't handle sceneries of a certain size, so if you break up details into grids then pretty much everyone can play your map (and that is indeed good).

ahhh excellent.. thanks Chromed... All I have to do now is work out how to use polyworks LOL.

Doesn't seem to difficult although I keep retarding something LOL... just had a fiddle to see how it works :P
Anyway it's still in photoshop stage at the moment.. i will learn to break it up once it it complete...

Also, I could make a white and colour them... I wonder though if this will still have the same effect :P

This map is way too big LOL I think I got carried away with making a gargantuan Boat LOL and now its got some Uber Gattling Cannon on the back and the friggin Barrel for one cylinder is as high as the characters LOL ;D
