Rambomatch - unused potential

What do I mean, "unused potential" in Rambomatch? Well, consider: It offers the only weapon in Soldat that can fire in two different ways. Mods could use this to great extent (if, sadly, only for that one gametype).

Possible weapons with two distinct fire-modes that could be used to replace the Rambo bow:

- A rifle/grenade launcher combo. This would fire bullets in one mode, m79 grenades with the other. You could make it an m16 and m203, an AK74 and GP-30, or even an XM29 OICW or a Steyr AUG and Metal Storm.

- A Neostead shotgun. This shotgun has two magazines, so you can load two different kinds of ammo at the same time, and fire either kind as needed. In-game, this could translate to one mode firing shells (spas-12 fire) and the other firing slugs (a high-damage bullet).

- An m16 or m4a1 with an XM-26. Fires bullets in one mode, shotgun shells with the other. For maximum gameplay enjoyment, make the assault rifle really accurate but weak, and the shotgun do substantially more damage, encouraging the player to switch modes depending on the situation.

- A G11 assault rifle. One mode would be normal automatic fire (remember that it's automatic mode is 600rpm - not really fast). To represent its special 2000rpm 3-round burst, you would make it fire a normal, very high damage bullet with lots of recoil, an extra-loud fire sound, and a good long wait before you can refire it (I'd suggest making the time between shots be like 50 ticks).

- An XM25 grenade launcher. You can't have airbursting ammunition (well, not unless you use a frag grenade that moves fast enough to be in the air after its timer goes off - meaning you either have to aim it straight up, or it'll be several screens away), but you can simulate its computerized sight by offering a fast-moving grenade for hitting distant targets, and a slow moving grenade for shooting over cover. My mod, LandWarrior, uses this weapon.

I'm sure there's some other guns which would work well, but I don't know of any more. Mainly, I wanted to offer the idea and some possible weapons to other modmakers, for the good of the Soldat modding scene.

Vltava already did this with Trigger Happy.
Also, you might want to see some of the crazy stuff BladeRunner's done in Hardwar: Tactics. The run-down: Basic Ram-bow, AUG + Underbarrel GL, M4 (c-mag optional) + M203 Underbarrel GL, Masterkey (M4 + Underbarrel Shotgun), AICW (Assault Rifle + Grenade Launcher), CS Blaster (from some science-fiction movie probably, 10mm Pistol + Missile Launcher) and the M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens with an underbarrel grenade launcher.

So, uh, short of sci-fi, most of the things I said? But, like I said, I was just offering up the idea and some examples for modders who havn't thought of it.

Dual firemode weapons like the ones in UT are valid candidates too.

Totally agree with everything said here. I love rambomatch... I remember back when I was little... Playing against terminator and billy on Rok... its still my best map.

Thats not the reason its horrible.  But if i were to get owned by a bow id rather it be the rambo bow  than a normal one lol.

I know that some of the best games I've ever played were rambo games, with good people. The one thing I don't like about it is that people ONLY use rett and m79 because they are the only guns that make sense.

Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

Those are the only weapons 'usable' in this mode i think, unless there are enough people to spray rambo until he dies. It's almost like a joke if you play with 2 or 3 players and they are using automatic weapons when u are rambo... you don't even need to move LOL-

I disagree. It becomes much easier if all players gang up on Rambo, and actually try to take cover. Also, 'nades are good against Rambo since he can pretty much only fire in straight lines.

Rambo is great. everyone can kill each other but one common enemy remains. I also see what you mean by alternate firing methods. Like your OICW w/ GL and an M4 Masterkey with Remington Shotgun. All very good ideas. I also agree that it opens up UT weaps/
