An Abundance of BSODs
« on: June 14, 2007, 06:17:34 pm »
I recently put together a new computer.  Everything is running just peachy except for the fact that I suffer from about two BSODs per day, always for a different reason.

They usually occur when I've been watching or playing a flash video or game for extended periods of time or when I have nothing but utorrent and Peer Guardian running (this almost guarantees a BSOD, though it may take several hours).

I did install Windows from an old Dell disk I have, though this computer was home-built.  I'm curious if it may have automatically installed drivers for a Dell computer and that may be the source of my problems.

It's currently Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002 with SP2.

Any help from you tech-savvy people will be appreciated.

Well first step is, what warning does it give at the top? Some bollocks about a Kernal or some such?

Otherwise, sometimes it mentions a driver thats at fault. Like nvidia.dll or something like that. Next time it happens, remember it or write down the driver/error reason.

Blue screens are generally conflicting driver issues, if nobody else comes up with a better idea you could just remove and reinstall your hardware, that might fix one of your problems. Do you have an ethernet adapter? Does your computer think you have an ethernet adapter?

Its probably that some of the video or sound cards you have are conflicting with each other, like what A-4-Year-Old said.

What video card do you have?  Do you have the latest video drivers (from the website)?

For more information, right click on my computer, go to manage, go to event viewer, look through "system" and "application" for anything of interest at the time of the bluescreen

I figured it was drivers.  I seem to have two audio drivers installed at the same time: one windows and one RealTek.  I'm not sure which, if any, to get rid of, though.

Flies, I'll check them out.  I haven't been writing down anything about the bluescreens recently, so I'll have to wait for another.

Are you sure your PC isn't over heating? Make sure airflow inside of your case is adequate for the hardware you have. Get thermal sensor programs and monitor the temperatures of your processor, video card and hard drives.

Most likely a program that monitors the temperatures of your processor and video card came with the motherboard driver install disk.

Also, for you to be able to sense hard drive temps, S.M.A.R.T must be enabled in the motherboards BIOS.

This is the newest BSOD:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

And the malfunction is from NDIS.sys

Meanwhile, the event viewer just before the crash show several identical tcpip warnings: "TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts."  Although the log also shows one from a few seconds ago and nothing is going wrong at the moment.
