I feel sorry for laggers...
« on: June 16, 2007, 09:20:54 pm »
I've often wondered why laggers always show up on the servers I play on, and I've came to the conclusion that there are only 3 possibly good reasons:

1. No one in their country, or in surrounding countries, can afford to set up a server.

2. No one in their country likes them enough to play with them.

3. They're not intelligent enough to understand they're lagging up the game, even when someone explains it to them.

Regardless of which reason it is, I really feel sorry for the laggy little buggers.  :-[
You should have been good enough to kill me, but you weren't. Instead, you were killed by noobishness.

It's probably the first one.

I always pick a server which responds with less than 100 ping.

I used to lag like crazy whenever I tried to play online because of my crappy dial-up connection. I just gave up on playing multiplayer and stuck to offline play, versing bots, before I finally got my beautiful and loved broadband connection.

It could also be that they don't have any good ping servers in their own country at that point in time, which applies to me. U13 and Fracs are reliable, but they're usually crowded, and the others are pubs with less skilled people. (They're still fun, but the people just leave and call me a hacker.) -_-

Usually if I'm not gonna play u13 or enesce's servers I'll just hit join game and sort by ping and just pick the lowest ping server with people... I've found a lot of good games that way.

Yes, Mofonofo is right.
Lag issue has been really almost fixed, you still can't play with 1000 but yea, who cares.

I almost always do that. I found that many interesting games happen on some random servers...

And the laggers are usually people who don't understand what lag is or do it on purpose. I remember that one time when somebody made a thread about how he got the revenge on some server when he called a couple of friends to play soldat with him on that server but download stuff so they would lag it. I myself have experienced something similiar from a well known clan but I will not name anyone now because I will be polite and won't flame anybody

There must be something wrong with the ping because almost everyone in Leo's R/S has <66 ping and they lag...or it could be the server but it annoys me.

Yeah, same problem here, but the router is set up on my desk. When my ping soars during Soldat I take a couple of deep breaths and usually manage not to unplug my roomie's comp. :D

I prefer being a lagger in a fun server.. Australian servers get to be really boring sometimes..

Currently I have my PC hooked up to my Mac via ethernet cable. My mac has a wireless connection to my landlords router and can share it's connection with other computers. I don't have any hookups in my room. Despite going through another computer, I still have low ping. Because of the extra connection I suffer only 30 higher than I normally would.

I do lag from time to time because the landlord has a crappy router and it even drops the connection for no apparent reason from time to time. I love when I freeze the split second I launch a grenade into some 'hippie's' face and miss. :D It's especially awesome when the screen freezes right as the enemy is staring head on at the projectile.

I use to do reasonably well on my mother's computer some years ago when it was working alright. Then I had to move to my laptop which played well from the beginning. But ever since my system was exposed to the network of my college campus, my laptop's been having issues that resulted in a heart transplant (replacement hard drive) allowing it to run slightly better.

And now that my lan port is too messed up to properly hold a lan cable in its rear, I've been using a bad wireless connection I've had to use a wireless card for. To add, I'm sharing that connection with my sister who literally downloads like she is going to die. Downloading games on the campus' computers wasn't permitted, and even then when that was bypassed, the firewall prevented me from playing any bit on line. So a half-assed wireless connection is mainly due to a bad system and sharing between 3 cpus from one hub.

And with all of the good opportunities for kills missed on the account of lag freezing my controls, not to mention slowing my frame rates to run at less than 10 fps too often, you can believe that I am not pleased with the fact that my system lags as well. So one thing that I cannot understand is that why some (I only say some, not many, most or all) don't bother to make the effort to understand possible circumstances one could possibly be in. Some might not be able to afford...

Let me stop myself there because that sounds like a pitty party waiting to happen. All I'll say is that I'm damned if I do [lag] and I'm damned if you don't. Plus, there are some bad servers out there. And as much as I would like to host games, knowing how bad my system runs, I refuse to put people through that.
