Chainsaw sounds
« on: June 20, 2007, 03:14:53 pm »
Does anyone know which ones do what? I'm trying to make the chainsaw into a sawn-off shotgun (since, for some reason, shot doesn't have a cutoff like bullets do in the chainsaw). Problem is, I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to make the sounds work right. Please assist?

Chainsaw:
chainsaw-d.wav ==> Sound when you change to the chainsaw
chainsaw-m.wav ==> Chainsaw idle sound
chainsaw-o.wav ==> Chainsaw reload sound
chainsaw-r.wav ==> Chainsaw fire/use sound

Btw. It's imposible to make chainsaw shootin'. It's hard coded into it. It just can be a bomb or chainsaw (or knife).

Not true. Bulletstyle 3 works normally, as I just said. Test it if you won't take my word for it.

My problem is that both sound o and r don't seem to play unless you hold fire... I think? Trying to assign them normal firing and reloading sounds doesn't work due to bizarre oddities... I was hoping someone could tell me how I could arrange the sounds to make them play in a logical and/or normal fashion.

How about this, paste the reload sounds behind the fire sound and just use that? And the reload sound would be "click click click" depending on how many shells?

The only problem with that is that if the player didn't hold fire throughout the entire reloading time, the sound would cut off.

I also tried putting both firing and reloading sound into the reloading sound, but it works in even more strange ways than the fire sound.

If you try to assign the sound to fire, you'd get something sounding like a sawnoff chaingun. The reason is because the firing sound is looped like, a million times faster then all the other guns. Unless you made a WM that slows down the chainsaws ROF, which, I still think, would be sketch at best. And if you go into a server without the mod, theres a possibility of causing damage to your speakers because the sound would build up and build up, eventually overloading the processor and sounding like a couple hundred howitzers.

"WM"? Explain this. I'm getting pretty desperate for something that'll work at least decently.

WM= Weapons mod. I'm saying unless you have a server specifically for this mod, it wont work because the rate of fire is a bajillion times faster then that of any other gun. Because of this the sound will loop way too fast and build up. You Can edit the Weapons stats to slow down the chainsaw's Rate of fire but you're screwed over seeing how not many servers willl adapt this weapons mod (if any)

You mean editing weapons.ini? My mod already does plenty of that. I actually have firerate about the same from chainsaw to sawn-off, just a radical ammo and reload time difference (100 ammo -> 2, instant reload -> 3 seconds). All that works perfectly, already. I just really need some way of making the chainsaw play a whole sound.

Unfortunately, there is no way you can do this Taehl. Like u stated, it only plays sounds if held down.

Damn, damn. Anyone have any idea how exactly the reload sound works? Might be more opportunity there, but I can't figure out why it sometimes cuts off, sometimes plays, and sometimes plays several times in a row.

Marcinkowski designed the chainsaw's sound to never cut off until released. It just loops the same sound 100 times (or whatever clip capacity is...) and if you release hte mouse before the sound it finished, it cuts. It's just the way the source code works...

Any idea how he coded the reload sound to work? In testing, it works differently.

It's in hte game's source code my friend. Without that, you're royally screwed. Let's put it this way. The chainsaw was coded to be a chainsaw. Period, end of story.

I have made my chainsaw shoot before
I have also made it make me fly around the map.

He means a distinct ballistic shot sound on the chainsaw.
