Musket Mod
« on: July 04, 2006, 09:50:59 pm »
I actually made this quite a while ago, but you americans can treat it as a 4th of July gift  ;).

As I like Napoleonic games such as Cossacks III, I made this small weapon mod that turns the Barret into a generic musket (with very good accuracy for a musket  :P).  It also has reloading and fireing sounds from the Battlegrounds Half-Life mod. The bullet casings and clip have been removed as muskets did not have them (durr).

I dont think I'm much of a sprite maker, but here it is anyway.

In game

Ive done a version with an outline around it as some people requested, although presonaly I like it without the line.

Interface
or?

Hmm...  I've made sprites before, and I'll say this isn't half bad.  The menu shot (the low one) looks flawless.  The in game though, the barrel looks a bit wide from what I see.

But doesn't distract from it TOO much...  Good work!

I made about 5 weapon sprites for some friend's random rpg. This is my first and only soldat sprite that was started from scratch. My other ones are red tracer bullets (easy as hell) and the FN Minimi with the barrel extended and given a green tint exept for the bullet chain.

Not bad, but the interface graphic should be thicker and have a proper outline.

Not broad enough? Brock said its too wide. I haven't got that many pixels to work with here, so I can't do exact measurements. ¬¬

Edit: Maybe youre thinking of a Blunderbuss.

You should give the interface pic a black outline.

Come to think of it...

Actually, it wouldn't need to be thicker if it had the outline.

Wow, I really missed Zero72's post, but I agree.

The ingame also looks a little long, I'll download later and see, but you might want to try shortening it. Overall for a first soldat sprite it looks good.

I purposefully made them quite long as a lot of them were quite long (they needed to be as they do not have any rifleing grooves.

Edit: Well they wernt that much longer plus there were also carbine ones, but ill keep the lenth how it is unless you realy think it is too long.

It looks good, the transparent sprite shot looks dead on accurate.

But isn't the barell a little too long?

Aye, well as thats anougher person who has commented on the lenth, I'll change it, and add the outline.

Okay, ive done the black outline and made it shorter. The interface pic looks more chunky and less musket-like.  :-\

Interface is not so good as the ingame. Thats maybe because the outline's are making it blobby. And the are both same. Interface one just has outlines around it.

No, those two pictures at the bottom are two versions of the interface picture. I done the outlined version as a couple of people suggested it. The top picture is the in-game picture.

Aye, you were right SD, I was thinking of a blunderbuss.
I had no clue there was such a thing called a blunderbuss, and now I think thats the coolest word ever.
The gold or whatnot on your musket could use some more shading however.

Hmm... The outline looks a bit unrefined somehow. It seems to have sort of offset the shape of the original... Still a nice improvement, but there's room for a bit more.

^Right-click, view image.

I definitely prefer the first one, but thin the outline on the buttstock.

Aye, blunderbuss is a great name for an early shotgun  ;D

[Update]
Ive done a bit of shading on the gold/brass and took away some of the outlineing on the buttstock

As I said in the first page, he is thinking of a blunderbuss.

Blunderbuss

The blunderbuss is pretty much an early shotgun.
